I've been saving for months & now im at the point where im finally ready to do my swap. I was goin back & forth tryin to decide between b16 & b18 v-techs. Im gonna go wit the b16. But i still have a couple of ?s. First, can the stock motor mounts be used if i drop in a 88-91 b16a1? Also, would i have to change axles, shift linkage, etc? And finally, the motor comes with a cable tranny, would i have to find a hydro tranny to match up or would i have to do some type of conversion in order to use the cable tranny? All info is appreciated, my time has finally arrived!

try there as your car is just the same.

You are speaking about the gen 1 b16 you can't put it in well yea but don't for many reasons I dont need to explain unless your really wondering. You'll need atleast b16 *b18s are better* from a SIR2 or 99-00SI or del sol vtec.

yeah b16a1 is a waste of time in a Sol... lots of needless wiring and whatnot to make it work. Get a b16a3, b16a2,b18c1, or b18b... or if you can afford it, shoot for the b18c5... now then, what that all breaks down to:

b16a3: OBD1 1.6L DOHC VTEC motor. Redlines at 8300. ~150whp. In 94/95 del Sol DOHC VTEC models.
B16a2: OBD2 1.6L DOHC VTEC motor. Redlines at 8000. ~150whp. In 96/97 del Sol DOHC VTEC models.
B18c1: OBD1/OBD2 (depending on year) 1.8L DOHC VTEC motor. Out of Acura integra GSR. ~170whp.
B18b: OBD1/OBD2 (depending on year) 1.8L DOHC non-VTEC motor. Out of Integra LS. Lots of low end torque, good for boosting. ~150whp I think..
B18c5: OBD1/OBD2 (depending on year) 1.8L DOHC VTEC motor out of an Acura Integra Type R. The quickest motor on this list. Higher compression, limited slip, and positive traction. You can tell it's a type R by the red valve cover.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you have any kind of emissions inspections in your area, a motor older than the car it's in will automatically fail you. Which is bad. Yes, you have to change axles. If you get a really nice and complete swap, the axles will come with it.

Don't worry about the cable tranny bit... if you get a motor from the right year (the year of your car or newer), they will all be hydro trannys.

Shift Linkage... you have to find the shift linkage out of a del Sol VTEC model to make the swap work. The shift linkage on it WILL NOT work. You also need a del Sol VTEC model A/C bracket. It's good times.

Hope I didn't down you too much, but I'm just letting you know what you're in for. My swap was a bitch (put in the B18c1).
