Generator

Is it possible to remove/change the generator on a 1600 with doghouse fan shroud without removing the engine? I would picture removing the large nut that holds the fan on,the plate on the front of the shroud,and the strap that holds the generator to the stand.Would this pull right out or would more have to be disassembled?

I didnt have to take my engine out, just had to do a bit of disassembly. it was a pain, probably would have been easier if i could have taken the engine out (but i dont have those sort of resources...yet).
