Was planning on saving up for a Doctorspeed stage 3,but im a poor 16 year old with no job,so I got a K&n drop-in, and was wondering if the intake is really a needed first mod,or could I do other mods like (exhaust, pulley, pcm, etc.) with the k&n and still see the same improvements as with the stage 3? I know the k&n wont give me as much improvement as the intake, but it was $140 less.

I went with the filter. Nothing else.

I love my Grand Am GT, but I also know that it won't ever be a speed demon. The tranny can't take much more power than stock, and the motor doesn't really take all that well to mods.
Just an opinion though.

Fully noted.

My dream for mine is to basically, do a few improvements.. have some of that extra HP when needed, but still look good while doing it? eh?

Looking into headers/exhaust, *recommended lighten'd pulleys*

I posted about the RSM Supercharger kit... Pros/Cons

Yep, thats the filter I got, just a replacement for the stock filter. I was in wal mart and just saw them, and had the money. I know my car will never be a 13 sec or lower car, but I still want sometnig to play around with, and I've only had the car for about a week. I was just wondering if I could move on to further mods and still see power gains of that with a CAI.
My mods so far are a K&n drop-in,Bosch platinum pluggs, and removed MAF screen(which ive heard is bad)

I know,the list is pretty extensive,lmao

Sounds fun.

Being my GASE has quite a bit more miles than yours, I think you got yours for a great price... I recently got mine for around $3950 ... miles though sorta killed me.

First day I got the car, straight to the shop for a new camshaft pully for one of those *only hell could produce this belt squeek of a noise* and new rad. hoses / coolant flushed ... around $370? ..... not even a week... Sidewalks are evil hmm... Hardly even touched it.. and next thing I know.. the brake caliper is riding the inside of my rim.. loose err Bolt was just gone... result was a thumpthumpthump when I braked.. louder as I braked harder... got that fixed.... just this past weekend.. low coolant light was coming on... whaaa? new cap $15 .. the other was OEM and didnt seal properly.... Hopefully with my new job these problems wont seem as such a hassle as they've been.

How many miles does your car have? Ive got 119k and my belt sqeaks a little sometimes. It doesnt start without pressing the gas sometimes, but very often. Other than a few chips, its great. I paid $4k,its a red 99 GT

bought it with 147k miles

The squeek problem was fixed, changed the camshaft pulley... was all wobbling.. making the belt go left/right = squeek :)

you guys like those flat replacment K&N filters? I didnt think to highly of those for the $85. The cone filters are better i think and sound kick ass.

I only paid $40 for my flat K&n.I was gonna get a cone,I would get more airflow, but it would be warm.

Bosch platinum plugs
I would recommend ACDelco plugs.

Removing the MAF screen. I can't see anything getting past the filter that wouldn't get through the screen. It is there as an extra layer of protection. I removed mine. Did it help??? Of course not.

AC plugs are really good. I use the new Iridiums havnt had any issues, hav seen others melt the electrodes arch off.

Was a perfect 56F degree night and I topped out 115mph, then I think the gov. kicked in.

Fun stuff.

just about any engine will run better when the abiant temps are low, to a point anyway.

oh yeaa... when I got done, there was a light steam from the heat of the engine. But it was worth every second of it.

Hey Icemike. I put a WAI on my car...bought PVC pipe and couplers from Home Depot and a filter from AutoZone and i immediately noticed a different in pick up. Especially now that its getting cold outside. Just a suggestion since you said you wanted some HP mods. It cost me about 50-60 bucks for everything. I also put Castrol Syntec oil in and it gave me a little more power...not a lot but minimally noticeable.

A new intake improved my gas mileage too...Gas up around $3.00 here at times (Missouri) so getting an extra 25-30 mpg per tank really helps.

Just my humble opinion. Good Luck

I already got rid of my airbox and all that restrictive crap tubing, and did a civic intake with a k&n cone filter. Its in my fenderwell, and I def noticed a difference.
