Muffler situation

as a few of you know, the stock exhaust on my car is ratty as hell. For one, there's a hole right after the cat where one of my friend bottomed out. Now the muffler has all but fallen off. appently, the stock muffler was cut off and replaced before I bought the car. The muffler never looked right. It was always crooked and pointed toward the driver's side. I heard it rattling when I got home today and checked it out. The was only one hangar welded on it(where the stocker has two). The packing inside the muffler has also rotted out so it sounds like a chainsaw with a header. The welds that held the muffler to the rear-section piping were shitty and now the piping is inside the muffler. Now it hangs so low the is a nice shower of sparks when I change gears or turn to the left. Should I just leave it there or take it off? I'm strapped for cash right now so I can't even afford to take it to a muffler shop to have it fixed. Don't even start any "you gonna be a ricer" B.S. If I care what people thought I wouldn't be driving a civic. Thanks for your opinions

If it's rusted that bad, then you should replace it (you'll have to when it eventually falls off anyways). But if it's still got some life left to it, just get a metal coat hanger and hang it up so it doesn't drag. But no matter what, don't keep it the way it is now if it's dragging on the ground. No offence but that's common sense man.

no doubt. I just took a long piece fo wire and tied it up off the pavement. It still swings. There is no more rust than what should be there. The weld holding the piping on the muffler just sucked and now the piping has slid into the muff. It rattles like a jackhammer when Im driving

Maybe try to pull the piping out a little bit. Then go to a place like Pep Boys and buy a special exhaust wrap. It's basically a thick tape with dried glue on one side, and when you heat it up (by running the car for a while or driving it for like 20 minutes), it will stick to the pipes/muffler and stay together. My brother just did this on his truck, when the piping rusted where it meets the resonator. Also if it's swinging even though you tied it up, maybe you should check further up the pipe to see if any of the other hangers are loose or off.

:werd: I just got out there and messed with it a little and *plop, clankety ,clank* the bastard fell off. Actually, It sound exactly the same as it did with the muffler. It just doesnt rattle anymore, which was contributing to the crappy sound. Surprisingly, it doesn't sound too bad. Decently deep, not too loud. I guess the tiny stock piping is helping me on that .I've been eyeing that Buddy Club Spec IV. I've got enough money for it and said I was strapped for cash because that's basicly all my money and I didn't want to spend it on something I was going to get rid of. There wasn't even any packing in it. I poured out abou 5 pound of rust and ass from the muffler. Later, thanks :)
