I had my 95 inpected Sept. 04 at an Olds Dealer (30 miles away) for the Fuel Rail Recall (GMRecall#04014) that I had received. They inspected and noted no replacement required. 8 mos later I am smelling fuel and getting high on a trip home of 250 miles. Had forgot about the recall. Took the car to my mechanic, he replaced the fuel regulator and patched the fuel line! Am getting ready to sell this vehicle and dug out all paperwork. Came across the GM recall notice and Olds Dealer Invoice. I then called GM to see if I could still get the recall taken care of since it was just "patched". They are informing me that my 95 was not included in the recall and they don't know where or why I rec'd a recall notice with my VIN # furthermore they spoke to the Dealer that had inpected it and they now say that they inspected it out of courtesy for no charge.
It is my understanding that all 95's were involved in the recall and that is why I rec'd the recall notice.
I guess my next step is to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin. and see if I can get this taken care of.

Thanks for your input. I have contacted the NHTSA - my 95 was definately included in the recall. However my VIN shows no open recalls. I have reported my local Olds dealer to the NHTSA for not only just "inpecting" and not replacing but evidently they have acquired payment for replacing the fuel rail and closed the recall.
Does anyone else have any recourse I can take to get this fuel rail taken care of? Or do I have to wait to wait to hear from the NHTSA because as of this morning, GM is still saying that this vehicle is not under any recall.

I belive the recall says that all they HAVE to do is inspect the rail. They can say it looks good and send you on your way so it can fail later. That's craziness.
I have not heard the course of action for the rail failing after inspection. Mine was one of the first done in Michigan, and I had to make a few calls to GM to make it happen. At the time it was only official for Caddy's. I'll go back to some of my old posts and see if I can find the numbers I used. Maybe it will help, maybe they will tell you what you've already heard.

Thanks! Actually the NTHSA told me that the fuel rail was to replaced on all 95's not just inspected. I have filed a complaint with the NTHSA. They have also informed me to call GM and Oldsmobile to let them know that I have filed a complaint as well as the dealer who did the original inspection. They gave me numbers, I just haven't done it yet, I have been busy trying to get a transmission problem repaired correctly. Which now my mech is telling me is actually my power steering making noise but not going bad.
I just wanted to get the fuel rail line taken care of b4 I sell it to a private party, but I think I am going to go trade it this next week. They can deal with it.
Thanks again - I will keep everyone posted if I ever hear back from NHTSA/GM/Olds!
