2002 x5 3.0 Eclectrical problem ?

While I was washing my X5 last week, all of a sudden smoke came from the AC fan located right in front of the radiator. It was parked on my drive way since previous night.
Within a minute this smoke became a fire. I was worried, I thought my X5 is going to become X0 :) . Then with my brother's help I removed the battery connection while he was waterig the ac fan.
It cost me $650 CDN . I asked the dealer, they have no clue than selling a replacement product :(

They've had all kinds of problems with those fans. There has been more than 1 recall. Some have even burned down the garages they were in.
