Replace front wheel bearings......

[FONT=verdana][COLOR=darkred][SIZE=3]I need to replace my front wheel bearings.(1995 s-350 DSL) Does any one have the correct procedure. I need to know the pressure on the torque wrench and if there are any hidden problems.....thanx for any help....Bill

First you need to tighten the collar nut that holds the hub tight to seat the bearings. Turn hub while tightening collar nut. once tight back off c ollar nut to a little less than hand tight. Then tighten collar nut to an
1/8 to 1/4 turn pass hand tight. Then tighten 5mm bolt that secures
collar nut. So basically the torque is slightly tighter than hand tight
once bearings are seated. As far as replacing the bearings and races it is straight forward. Drive out with a punch. Drive back home. It helps to use the old race on top of new race when going back in so as not to score new race. Brass punch also works great. I would recommend using the factory grease. After packing wheel bearings put grease it the middle of the hub thats between the bearings. Finally put some in the grease cap.
