Drive axle removal

My Haynes book says that the half-shafts should just pull out from the stub shaft. If it "hangs up on the snap ring, place a large prybar between the CV joint housing and the transaxle housing and pry the housing out". Well, I tried this and it does not budge. Is there some trick I don't know about?
Thanks in advance!
Jim

sometimes, you have to move the snap ring around just to free it. Try moving it around with a screwdriver and pry it out with your bare hands. That's how I've been able to free stuck CVs.

Thank very much. I will give that a try. I'll post the results, good/bad. Thanks again,

There is another way,use a long punch by hitting the punch with a BFH on the end of the axle. The wheel bearing side is another story,it may be stuck in the wheel bearing and will not come out sometimes.I have encountered this a lot of times,a common problem.
