AC Removal

Hey all;
Im looking to remove my AC. I want to take out the compressor, so its not being powered by the crank pulley. More power to the wheels. If I take out the compressor, what else do I need to do? What else do I have to take off? Also, how would I figure out what size belt I need? I have a crank pulley, and the stock belt had to be replaced with (I Think) a bigger one. How would I figure our what size I would need then? Thanks. And is it hard?

Unless the AC is turned on, It doesn't really take much power at all. The compressor has a clutch that engages when you turn on the AC. Otherwise the pulley spins freely. If you still want to remove it, use a string and wrap it around the pulleys that the belt will go on. Measure the length and you can go to a parts store and buy the belt by length. Some parts people are retarted but all the belts have length measurements on them. I think it might be in mm but that shouldn't be a problem.

So this is pretty much useless to do than? I always had the impression that removing the A/C was good for performance. Like all true race cars take em out.

A lot of track cars remove all the AC components for weight savings. The condenser also sits in front of the radiator so removing that could help with cooling (although it's only like half an inch thick). Track only cars will never use AC so there's no real point in keeping it in one. It also adds to the underhood complexity.

I dunno. You can take it out for weight like he said.
but I just cut my belt when my compressor crapped.

You'll be sweatin your balls off in the summer for a lousy 50 lb weight reduction. If every 100 lbs = .10 off your 1/4 mile time, then you would only gain a half a tenth. I went to boot camp in Great Mistakes, and Chicago summer was a hot mofo. Plus your girl won't want to ride anymore (or she'll bitch non-stop). I'm pulling mine out anyway. It's not a daily driver :)
