code P0134 help ?

97 Grand Caravan 3.3L
SES light comes on occasionaly, OBD II scanner reads P0134
heated oxygen sensor, where's it located and can it be tested?

there are a couple HO2 sensors in the car
one on each exhaust manifold and one on past the catalytic converter. does it tell you which one it is? (like bank one, sensor one)

to check them, unplug them and check the signal wires with a digital multimeter. it should read around .3-.7v

I'm sorry, I left that info. out of post,it did read bank one, sensor one. Total " brain fart ".

That is the O2 sensor before the cat. It is located either in the exhaust manifold or the down pipe.

My wife was quoted almost $400.00 dol. to replace HO2 sensor.

$400 is totally outrageous!!! The sensor will be less than $100 and a socket to change it is about $12. Find the sensor, if it on the down pipe, raise and support the vehicle. Then unplug the old sensor, use the socket to remove the old one. Coat the threads of the new one with anti seize compound and hand thread it into the hole. Then tighten it with the socket, reconnect, lower the vehicle and then start. It should clear the code automatically but if not take it to autozone and they should be able to clear the code for you.

I get the feeling you have never changed an o2 sensor on a caravan.it's easier said than done

No actually I haven't but $400 is still way too high for this repair. Must be a dealership! I have changed the plugs though and it can't be much harder than that since you basically have to remove the whole top of the engine to get to the rear plugs!

I agree $400 is out of line.

The rear sensor is the Downstream O2 sensor, all you need is a 7/8 socket, best way to replace it is to first remove the rubber plug which is located under the passenger side bottom of van, cut the wires close to top of sensor off, put a 7/8 socket on sensor, remove, then install new sensor, should take you no more then 10 mins.

OK Guys,
It's Saturday morning, have all weekend to replace sensor,paid 60.99 ,been under van and located upstream sensor on exhaust manifold just before flange to downpipe, very difficult to get to, any tricks or caution I should be aware of ?? Actually I have until 11-08-05 so I don't wan't to be over anxious! Thanks to all for your advice and replies.

It's located behind the converter, there is a rubber plug which you have to pull down, this plug goes into a hole on the underside of the van, you can't miss it, when you remove the plug you will see the connector, refer to my above post for the easiest way to change this sensor.

Apparently you haven't been reading what he is saying.He said bank one sensor one,that is the upstream sensor,in other words it is before the cat.He is going to have some fun but I'm sure he will get it.
