Block ID??

I found a good table online the other day but didnt' have all the numbers. Now I do and I can't seem to find a good page. Can anyone tell me what motor this is, or where I can find it on the web? Thanks!

I would say from the info the I have, looks like it could be a 327. The casting # 3914678 was used for 68-69 302, 327, and 350. The last letters of the vin (HF) were used on 66-68 327 and 69 350. So it does look like a 68 327. However the date code usually is interpreted in the way that A=first month(Jan) B=Feb etc, with the exception of I which is omitted because it resembles a 1. That would make the date code Sept 14 1967. This contradicts the casting # indicating 68-69. However since this would be fairly late in 67, it could be possible that the block was actually made in 67 and installed in a 68 model at the plant. ??? Any other info? Casting # of the heads or intake? I got my info from a book that I got ahold of some time ago and photo copied alot of good info. Too bad I didn't copy the name of the book :banghead: Anyhow, let us know if you got any other info on the block.

I have head casting numbers but the only problem there is we are not sure if they are stock heads or heads that the perviouse owner put on himself.

Here it is anyway: 3917291 with a date code of E38 (May 3, 1968)

keep those heads the 291 casting are identical to the famous 462 casting aka fuilie or camel humps they have 64 cc chambers thes are one of the best factory heads for performance

Yes, good heads indeed. My info says 67-69 302,327,350 with 66cc chambers and either 1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valves. The large valve models usually had screw in studs and guide plates (used on hi perf. models Z-28, vette, LT1's, etc.). What about the intake? Also, is the oil pan on the motor and where is the location of the oil drain plug? Vettes had the plug in the middle, while reg. production cars had them off to the side. Looks like A good motor to have.

I'll get back to you on the intake manifold and oil pan/plug locations. Thanks for the help... and check back soon.

I think I ran across that site before. I couldn't find it much help unless I'm missing something. This is becuase it showes all casting numbers and the casting number I have (3914678) is same casting for 302, 327, and 350.

They all say its from a 68 to. The Nova is a 67 but its not an SS and we were told that the motor was out of a '68. Still no help from what I can see.

The 68-up 4" bore blocks (302, 327, 350) have the larger journal crank, the '67 and older 302-327 has a small journal crank. The 350 in 1967 has the large journal crank.

O.k., where was the location of the numbers? The engine id # VI0I9HF should be on the flat pad on the front of the block. Was there another # there as well? The car vin should be stamped there as well. Also, just for the hell of it what is the vin # of the car? Should be located on the left front body hinge pillar below the upper door hinge. If the car and engine are original, the numbers will match. The lack of an vin # on the flat pad would indicate the engine was not installed on the assembly line. This info came from the Year One catalogue for Novas.
