Can any one explain the layout and the way a CI (compression ignition) diesel fuel injector works. Any pics. Thanks Matt.:silly2:

The injector sits were the spark plug usually sits if it were a gasoline engine. The diesel fuelpump is a mechanical pistonpump (one piston per cylinder) and have a pressure of around 1200 bars in modern diesels. Once every time the fuel is going to be injected the pressure is risen (the pump piston is pushed upward by a camshaft), when it reach a sertain point the injector will open.
Diesels usually don't have a throttle, it's only controlled by the amount fuel that is given, more fuel = more power. Since there is no throttle, the engine will run lean when it's not under full load.
Diesels are usually turbocharged since that will make them cleaner, a non turbocharged diesel will probably not manage todays exhaust emissions.
