Engine Frozen or Does not turn

I don't understand it but I got up to drive to the gas station. The car started and drove to the gas station (10 miles) with no sounds, no worries, no nothing.

Filled it..Turn the key to start. All I heard and continue to hear is "I think my starter kicking out and a "thump!"....the lights go dim. I try again, same thing.

My oil light did come on but that's really nothing new, considering I'm dropping some oil but I keep oil in her.

I was told to take a ratchet and turn the crankshaft bolt a little. I removed the belt, took a wrench and turned "counter clockwise" but the bolt on the loosen. I tighten it and try to turn clockwise but not able.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong and I kNOW someone here will be able to help me. Thanks!

what year is your car and what engine. There are inherent problems with certain years and engines, and it will help us determine your next avenue of attack.

It's a 95 with a 3.1 engine. This is the same engine or electical system that most car places cannot use their Code Machines because the pin-outs are wrong.

If you can't turn the engine clock wise it is seized!! Make sure the battery connections are good but if you can't turn it by hand neither can the starter.

take out the spark plugs and then try to turn it over. As you do, look to see if coolant comes out one of the spark plug holes. It is possible that you had an intake or head gasket leak that forced coolant into the combustion chamber and you hydrolocked the engine. If the engine won't turn over with the plugs out, you siezed a rod or main bearing and your motor is shot. If you hydrolocked a cylinder, you probably bent a connectiong rod (as coolant doesn't compress like air, so as the piston came up and the valves were closed trapping the coolant in the compustion chamber, something had to give). Either way, it's a good bet your motor is toast.

I would imagine a new engine would cost in the 4-5 K range and I'm sure there isn't anyone out there who can rebuild it.
