All Season Tire -- Including Snow/Ice

Hi, I'm a recent transient to the new england area.
I bought the car used from the dealership (it was a loaner car) with about 24K miles on it last November. V6, great condition, much better than the hand me down neon I had previously.
The car came with P205/65R15 Good Year Radial TPC Spec 1087 MS tires. They were fine in the south, but I drive hard on my wheels and my transmission (i don't take my time accelerating) and they are now at 40K + miles.
The salt/ice/snow mixture in england hasn't been kind to my wheels or my driving style. I often spinned out so I tried to be more careful driving during the winter. I went back to normal driving in the summer, but I think the wheels need retiring. They aren't handling wet roads well at all, especially involving down hills and curves.
They can't handle rain anymore, stopping going down hill is questionable and stopping on a turn going down hill has caused a lot of close calls. It's October now and the salt/snow/ice will be back soon, and I live in a nice steep curvy road that tends to turn into a sheet of ice.
I need new tires and haven't been pleased with the factory ones. My front right tire has a slow leak in it (i refill it often) and that is causing most of the problems, but even prior to that the traction lacked. Not to mention all the damn potholes messed up my alignment.
I might end up in Florida before the winter is up, so i don't want to go to to an all winter tire, especially since I tend to drive back south instead of flying. (I dislike flying.)
To the point, any cold weather inhabitants have suggestions for a good all season tire? One that doesn't cost a fortune preferably ...
Thank you!

Go to tirerack.com for a multitude of tire info, no AS tire will really do the job in real sno or ice, especially up here I am in upstae NY, so I know what you are talking about. 40k tires are really a problem as you know, there are some as tires with a somewhat more agressive tread, you will be able to see/compare on their website.

max is right. up here I have yet to have an all season tire that has worked worth a damn. But at the same time this will be my first winter with the grand am. Always had RWD and i drive like you do describe.

Try these, based on your driving style, as you described it, they may meet your needs. The provide good traction on all surfaces and based on Tire-Rack's test results rate superior in all areas.

i too would recomend the Good year Assurance. Most tires only hav a life of 40k miles. Those Assurances are 80kmile. Before my GA had Good year RS's they sucked! Dry hot black top was the only thing they stuck too.
The Assurance are the best I hav seen in a long time. I too tend to drive hard, and these seem to not spin on dry pavement or wet. Before I could only drive 45-50mph in the rain, now I've had it up to 85-90mph in the pouring rain and it pulls alittle when you hit some deep water but they dont hydroplain or jerk the wheel out of your hands like other tires would.

PS. there is no tire that will really help with ICE driving, maybe tire chains.

If you are really afraid of ice, bridgstone blizzak are the best for ice, but they wear quickly. I run bfgoodrich gforce kdw in the summer and snow tires in the winter. I also drive on 89 in nh, and they do a crappy job plowing it.

I have these on my 2001 Grand Am GT.
I live in Colorado...Denver area. We tend to have some easy winters, and some rough ones.
I will be buying a similar tire again. These have done me great.

Those tires sound like an excellent deal! I wish i had found them when i bought mine... but not complaining for the bfgoodrichs i bought. they've served me very well so far with only a very very slow leak from my one front tire with close to 20,00+ miles for only having them 1 year.
