IWC Version 2.0

It's a new IWC thread, because the old one had a lot of bad vibes in it there at the end, hopefully some of that has changed. Anyway i do know that you all want a classifieds sub forum, a product review, and a tuning section. I dont know if i'll be able to get all of those but the new admin is working hard at this site so hopefully we'll have at least one here soon.
Keep up with the ideas though, and i'll do what i can.

DSM specific videos section! For example, say someone is wondering how a certain exhaust sounds before they want to purchase it. Someone else with that exhaust could post up a clip of it for everyone to hear. It could turn out to be a pretty good database of video clips. But, any other dsm related clips could be posted.

Get rid of the sub-forums. Nobody uses them. And if you have performance, non-performance, and diagnosis what's the main forum for? Posts in the sub-forums just get lost. Maybe a classified sub-forum but I don't think any are really necessary.

Eliminate the "main" forum.
Have the present sub-forums, plus a "hang-out" forum.
The absence of a "main" forum will force people to chose a forum, pertaining to what they are about to post. This will organize everything in a much better way.
The presence of a "main" forum actually encourages people not to use the sub-forums... many are simply not bothered to click them and use them. The purpose of the main forum is basically redundant at this point, and serves only to clutter up things. What goes on in the main forum, is 99% of what is called "hanging-out". A separate sub-forum for that purpose should suffice.
The above has worked very well for DSMtuners.com, should help with traffic flow here.

I agree with Shpyder. The main forum tends to be what most people post in, and the sub-forums get ignored. Nobody really checks them. It would be a lot more efficient to have just the sub-forums, but maybe expand them a little. Performance, Non-Performance, Problem Diagnosis, Classifieds, and anything else that might be broken down into a category.

If you guys dont have a problem with losing a lot of your post count i suppose it could work. Because if we delete the main forum then all those posts and threads get deleted with it.

Is there any way to move the entire contents of the main forum into a sub-forum called "the hang-out", or whatever you want...? A lot of people are post-whoring and cluttering up the main forum. A huge amount of what they post can be easily placed in the sub-forums that are already active...the very presence of the main forum actually deters this; people are lazy and not bothered. Having just sub-forums would channel them into the right category automatically.

Well, if we are gonna lose all of that informatin and posts, then I would say don't do it. That's where the most of the knowledge and information is on this site, and if that gets deleted, there won't be much left. Is it possible to go through and move each thread into one of the categories? I know that would take a hella long time, but we would be better off in the end I think. I would even volunteer to help move them if needed. I'm sure you could get a few other people on this site to help also, so the work would get shared. Just a thought.

I strongly disagree with that course of action. 1000's of hours of wrenching, blood, sweat and tears went into that information. Loosing it would be detremental to this forum.
Is it possible to lock an entire sub-forum? For example, move all of the main forum posts to a sub-forum called Archive and lock that sub-forum. That would allow the information to be retained and searchable but not added to.
The only downfall would be that people would have to link to the old thread instead of bringing it back. But I think that all of us are computer literate enough to link to an old thread.
Provided that you can move all of the threads at once. Moving each thread independantly would be monumental.
EDIT>>
Then from the Archive forum, you could move......let's say 1 thread every day to the appropriate new forum.
Doing one a day would only take about 29 years.......

There might be a way we can just turn the whole main forum into a subforum called off topic, but as a subforum. I'm gonna check with the admin about this see what he says.

i haven't been on in a while... but... i posted on the old one about trying a for sale section? it might not be used that often but, since dsmtrader is down... and plenty of people here are looking/getting rid of parts... i think it would be a good idea, but whatever

Advanced Tech And Tuning area. Somewhere your only aloud to post if you can give viable information to a technical question. It would need to be highly regulated and have severe ass reaming when needed for those would ask basic "why" or "how" questions easly obtainable though the search feature, vfaq, dsmtuner, or google!!! It would be nice to have a place to discuss theory and techincal information. Video clips are great, but we need to attract more experienced members who don't want to sift through 2 pages of posts to find somone who has actually researched thier question and needs resionable help.
It needs to be here for this area to grow. And, yes MANY threads and posts will need to be deleted and it will consume alot of your time. But it will be worth it to have a good resourse at our fingertips.
I Second an Off Topic area where bad spelling, swearing, frendly bashing and good conversation can take place.

At this point? Nothing, It only took you 2 weeks to respond to your own IWC thread. I'm not going to allow my personal thoughts cloud this thread with what I feel *you* should be doing, or; Rather NOT doing for this area of AF.
I don't even know where to start. More expernced members is what this area is lacking so despreitly. I'm not going to sugar coat anything. This section of the DSM community has sufferd the last 6 months. Its boring, un-eventfull, repeditive, and extreamly litterd with poor information. It's not your fault for not knowing these cars like previous moderators, but we need one or two who do to correct this! You can't moderate miss-information if you don't know it! We also need to rearange this cluster Fuc* of thread sections. No one uses it or regulates it properly. Everyday I'm on here I see posts that can be answerd with a search, Posts in the wrong spot, performance questions in the main fourm, Non-performance in the performance fourms. This place is turning into a sandbox for the Newbees. If we don't start getting experenced members, this place will never get noticed in the DSM tuning community as a place to come with questions and answers.
Vent.
Not attacking you. Attacking what I know needs to be done, but cant do anything about!!!

Apparently you dont understand that i can't make these changes i can only tell the people that run the site and wait for them to take action. No i can't be on here all the time because i have a job and a life outside of this message board. Like i said though, i can only do so much as ONE moderator.

On the topic, what progress has been made in getting another mod in here? I tend to recall from several of the "chief" mods said that it was going to happen, but I didn't think it would take this long. You are doing a fine job, but this job is designed for more than one mod, atleast in our area of the forum because of the amount of people that visit and post here. And no, we don't want formula to come in and sub for 2 weeks and say they are working on it. They have had long enough.

I frequently visit a mustang enthusiast site for so cal and they have a great thing on there called a shout box. It's basicly a small chat window that sits up at the top of the forum boards where you can just bs with people outside of the threads. Basicly just a irc set up. I mean I would love to see something like that here at AF. I would show you what it looks like but you have to be a member to see it.

We have a dedicated chatroom at another forum I frequent, but it dosn't get used all that much. Good idea though, always good to have more options.

You've gotten an answer, more than once even, in the past. It's not in my hands anymore, it's up to the admins.

Well not really, a lot of other forums have their own classified sections. Maybe they only want 3 subforums per forum...
