Turbo'd ....

I am thinking of Turboing my 96 Nissan Altima .... the kit is $3500 for the entire kit. I would need a Manual Transmission ... I need a manual swap before i spent that 3500... I am wondering where i can buy a tranny, with the clutch pedal, and everything else thats needed for the tranny swap .... I am looking to spend about 1200 (Installed). If you have any suggestions, let me know ...

You need a '95 or newer car with a manual transmission that will have a CPS and manual VSS. Auto and manual trans. axles are different part numbers. You need the shift tube, gearshift, boot, console trim and hardware, pedal assembly, clutch master cyl., hydraulic pipes, hoses, slave cyl., release arm, and all the brackets and hardware that secure the lines to the body. With a complete car you will get the CPU and wire harness that you will probably need. It will have a flywheel, flange washer, bolts and pressure plate bolts. The steel plate between the trans and engine may be different. You should be able to purchase a wreck or bad engine car for $800 or less. When your finished you can get something for the scrap, and very likely it will have over $20 worth of fuel in it. Then you need a clutch kit. The greatest obstacle is that Borg Warner RS5F50A manual transmissions are the weakest link of an Altima. If it has 75,000 miles it will need new bearings. I am still amazed at the price for rebuilt. Some one wrote of purchasing a rebuilt trans for $1300 that still howled like it needed bearings. You will get what you pay for from http://drivetrain.com/ at $1745.

So what would be a strong transmission for the Altima ? I am definately going to be pushing it hard....And is there a website i can browse through ... or do i just need to find a good junk yard .

There are no other options that I know of. The transmission is a transaxle that bolts to the engine. Ask the people at Drivetrain. They are the experts and will answer your questions. Shop for junk yards. I think you will pay a lot more buying the pieces to convert, and getting a quiet transaxle would be a huge gamble. Altimas sold in Canada are supposed to have LSD carriers in their transmissions.

if ur smart u will not put a manual transmission in ur altima, first of all ive been through 6 of them i get mine from junkyards cheap , and second turboing an altima is not going to make it fast because of the high compression , u will need stronger, low compression pistons , but if u can put those in, it will be fast with the automatic , i know this because there is a 24osx with the ka24de turbo setup he needs pistons because he cant push the boost he wants with the pistons plus its automatic and its still preety quick with 6psi

I figured the automatic transmission wouldnt hold up to the boost i'd be applying to it ... i dont know too much about the automatic tranny.

All this talk about 240's and Sentra's, its making me sick ... All the sites i've looked through, dont have much to say about Altima's. But they boast about the 240 and sentras .... Come on now... where are the Turbo'd Altima sites ... theres not many

bottom line is that the altima automatic is stronger than the manual. I know this from experience so to answer; no a manual is not needed

you dont need low comp pistons. also i wouldnt buy a turbo kit because you can put one together for about $1000 less while still using optimal parts. also on stock internals id run about 9psi

So where would i find my all my parts for under $1000 ? Also a list of parts that i'd need ?

and maybe an safc2 for the ecu...most parts could be found at a junkyard.
that would be an easy cheap setup
