Do you just want a 350 or would you settle for a 305?

I am just wondering, don't know of any for sale around you.

88camaroproject
10-09-2005, 10:28 PM
i would settle for a 305, but only if its a manual. but if i find a nice 350 with low miles, i guess i will settle with an automatic.

FormulaLT1
10-09-2005, 10:39 PM
Either way your going to have to settle unless its a custom car cause the 350 wasn't offered with the T5

like john said, there werent manual 350's in third gen, unless it was swapped in... 305's came with 5 speeds tho...

Just my opinion, but I beleive 4th gen 3.8s are faster, and better with gas than 305s. I wouldn't get one unless you REALLY want a V8... or you're planning to drop any type of 350 in there.

But I know pretty much everyone on this board is a huge fan of thrid gens, so whatever floats your boat.

drvngstorm05
10-10-2005, 12:44 PM
out of the box a 4th gen 3.8 is faster than a 305... but u start throwing the mods on, and you'll be seeing nothing but third gen taillights...

Xenostalgia

same could be said for hte 3.8 :x

KaotiKCamaro5

but i'd rather start with a 305 than a 3.8..

Regardless of if he went with a V8 Third Gen or 3.8 Fourth Gen both would be a improvement over his 2.8 Third Gen IMO.

i was saying when you throw equal mods on both of them you get more of a gain with a 305, if you do similar mods to both cars and run them against each other the 305 will start owning shit

Why wasnt a 350 offered with a T5? Was it that they couldnt handle that much torque or what?

Exactly, the 350 was nearly on the verge of the T5 torque rating, so they limited it to Auto's, although I think it could have taken the abuse.. Those are some bad ass 5.0 Stangs cruising around with T5's I am pretty sure the majority of 350 equiped third gens could have held up with a t5.

Xenostalgia
10-10-2005, 04:17 PM
I think thep roblem would be if you did only a few mods i/h/e and bigger injectors you'd start shredding the T5's cause of the power-output.

The T5 is fun tho. Takes its abuse. I think mine has seen definately better days but still keeps chugging along with all the synchros broke. :( Nasty grinds once in a while.

well i have been douing research, lots of it and found with a 305 tbi just headers and cat back exhaust frees up 30 horsepower on average, just because those are being choked up the butt. and i was gona put a better cam in, and tbi, and bigger injectors, heads, intake manifold, spacers, bolt on stuff, cowl hood, big ass circle air filter. actually i found a carbed 350 in a 3rd gen hooked up to the t5, but it was put in there. and i thik it might still be for sale.

Congrats on your new car but there are plenty of people out there getting near 30 MPG from LT1/LS1 and making well above 300 rear wheel horsepower and I have never ever ever had any problem what so ever taking a GTi , being stock or otherwise.

http://www.cranecams.com/?show=streetShark , I make well above 300 wheel horsepower and get between 25 - 30 MPG highway. I am glad your taking pride in your new car but it is not the end all of a all around good car. So please refrain from blowing smoke up my ass. Also insurance depends on your age and where you live. So that point is debatable. Good luck with your new car

i dont kno y yal r gettin so pissy wit me im not sh** talkin ur cars all im sayin is that the kid was lookin for a new car i switched from amro to gti thought i recomend the alternative ... never said nethin bad about ur cars cuz i love em and im srry but considering my 8 got about 18 mpg avg and both my 6's got about 13-15 avg i highly doubt a highly modded car will get 30+....srry but no happenin.

FormulaLT1

It all depends on how you mod your car but the name of the game is being efficient and the more efficient the car is the more power it will make and the better gas mileage it will get. So when you increase your cars ability to breath, that improves gas mileage and power and when you provide a stronger/longer spark to your vehicle. That will generate more power and greater gas mileage and when you improve on your vehicles ability to expel burned gases , that will also improve your vehicles ability to generate power and improve gas mileage. So , like I said, it all depends on how you modify your vehicle.

I drove from Long Beach, CA to Phoenix, AZ in my LS1 Z28. 377 miles one way. I made it there on a single tank of gas, cruising 70-75mph, with a few spurts to 90mph.

I averaged 27.3mpg. I would of gotten higher, but since it was summer I had to run the A/C. We left at 3am... got there at 8am. It was hotter than hell in the desert in the middle of the night.

Not to mention the high winds that buffeted us the entire way.

Also, LS1's... especially 2001-2002 LS1's are known to dyno just a nut hair above 300whp stock.

Keys to your car please.

Kinda late there.. if the kid comes through John or Curtis will get his GTI.. this is a the VW Golf right? Because if so.. those cars are kinda slow.. I took one on.. and won with about 1 car length. GO MONTE CARLO! :icon16:

I am not getting pissy.
Just that you said you would give your car to someone who owned a car that got over 30 MPG and had over 300 RWHP.
Mine did. Before I got into the motor.
Kinda nice cruising in 6th gear at 80 MPH pushing 1700RPM's.

When I dyno'd at 333 RWHP, my car got 31 MPG on the highway. It wasn't highly modded to get to that number.
More recently it got 27.5 MPG on the highway while making 376.8 RWHP on the stock tune.
Believe it or not....it is true.

Does it matter a whole lot that your over a mile up?
*edit*

I know for horsepower it does since moreair=more power, but I didn't know about milage....

Altitude shouldn't matter.
Not that it matters really. It was on a road trip back to Iowa. Mileage stayed consistent for both the trips.
