traction controll issues

A few days ago the warning light 'trac off' began to intermittenly come on. This was followed a day later by an (also) occasional 'Service traction control' in the message center. No new sounds, odors, vibrations, my local mechanic indicated that no great urgency, but the computer shows a brake light error...light not going off (lights work normally) or the brakes are engaged continiously.

any ideas are greatly appreciated

We have a 2002 that the traction light kept coming on and the traction control actually came on too. That went on for about a month before we started hearing noises on the front passenger wheel. I can't remember exactly anymore but I think it was the wheel hub??

Possible wheel speed sensor problem. The speed sensor is used to determin the speed of the wheel in relation to other wheels. If one spins faster, traction control engages slowing the engine and/or applying brakes slightly to allow power to be transfered to the other non-slipping wheel. If the wheel spins slower then the others, then it thinks that the wheel has (or is about to) locked up and then applies the modulator to "pulse" the brakes preventing a lock up.

The issue seems to have cleared up. I had installed LED bulbs in brake light positions prior to the errors showing up; I have now re-replaced the LED brake lights that I had recently installed with standard bulbs, and the warnings have stopped. Seems odd, but how can I argue with results. Some how the low power draw or a feedback in the circuitry must have caused the problem.
