proper way to test for boost leaks

Today, as I was checking for boost leaks I notice I can't build more than 8 psi. I listen for leaking air and i notice air coming out of the hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake pipe. Do i need to cap this hose and try again?

That hose is your pvc. Is the air leaking from the valve cover or the intake. i think if you are correctly testing its coming from your valve cover. anyway if its coming from your valve cover the only reason air would be coming out of that hose is from blowby and if your blowby is that bad that you can only hold 8psi it might be time to invest in a new set of rings

Thats pefectly normal. If its the PCV valve though I would replace it. You'll always get some air going by the rings. Don't forget there are gaps at the ends, there is no oil on them, and they dont seal well when not moving, add to that the restrictive nature of the leak tester (shraeder valve)... To limit you to 8 psi though, there are other leaks. Its not uncommon for hte leak to make no noise at suck low flow levels, so I like to use a spray bottle with soapy water to check all of the couplers, hoses, pipes, injector seals, etc.

I just retested a while ago. One of the couplers was badly cracked and was leaking which is fixed now. Now im able to hold 12 psi. The hose that is leaking from the valve cover is the hose on the left side of the valve cover.

Are you using a real compressor? Using a bicycle pump will not work effectively. If you can't build pressure past 12psi, then start at the throttle body and test there. I bet your seals are leaking (mine are). Then go back one coupler at a time until you fix all leaks in each coupler or BOV flange or whatever it may be. Go backwards one step at a time making sure you can hold 20psi and then you'll find the leaks. It's time consuming, but worth it.

Im actually using an electric pump.
Do our oil caps have some sort of gasket? Mine doesn't and air is leaking from the cap. Is it time to buy a new oil cap?
Thanxs for the replies.
