I just got an 01 Grand Prix SE. The rear speakers come in and out, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. The clock display went out on me yesterday too. Also, if anyone know, is it hard to take off the plastic cover that cover the radio. Thanks

I would bet your speakers are bad. I had the same issue with my 99, and the speakers were the problem. Best Buy sells a harness so you don't have to cut the factory harness to put aftermarket speakers in your car for $6. To replace the speakers, you have to remove the rear seat and back shelf cover to get to the speaker mount screws. The bottom seat cushion comes off with two pull tabs at the seam of the lower cushion and carpet (one on each side). Then there are 4 bolts that retain the seatback at the bottom. The rear shelf cover is retained by two plastic push retainers on each side. Get in the trunk and you will see some plastic retainers that hold the speaker grills down, release them and the whole carpeted shelf and speaker grills pull out as one piece. Then take the 4 screws that retain the speakers out. Installation is reverse of removal.

you know it got me thinking on why the speakers would go bad, ive read other posts about sterio and amp problems, i have a full stock sound system in my 98 still, seems like the speakers would last a while since they sound so good for being a stock setup, even some of my friends have said it sounds nice, is this another common GM problem?

not real common, but it happens. I only know that bad speakers will cause intermittent operation because I experienced it. I put in some Pioneer 6x9's that I had in the garage, and they sound better than the factory ones did. What you have to be careful of is that you get speakers that work with the relatively low output of the facory head unit (12-20 watts).

The rear speakers were bad. I put my old pioneer 6x9 in the back, but I think the stock reciever doesn't have enough power for the speakers. Thanks for the help.
