Thanks for the help man! First thing in the morning , I''m going to check some things out. The sparkplugs could indeed be the reason why the engine can't start. It's like the engine turns , but doesn't ignite , just like an empty sigarettelighter.
In regard to your question about the 2002 : the 2000 type with the square lights , like mine , is fairly hard to find. The 2002 on the other hand can be found quite often on oldtimersales. The 2002 is useable as a first car but has a rather lively engine. When choosing a first car , one with a small engine is better since you still have to learn a lot just by driving. That's the reason why I really love my Fiesta 1.1. You can't get overwhelmed by it. Now that I drive for nearly 5 years I'm ready for something with some more power.
When my 2000 is finished , I'm planning on buying a cheap 2002. But first I have to search for a "new" car as I'm going to sell my Fiesta to my younger brother. I would really like to buy a used 320i , (no more than 6 years of age).

PS : The 2002 is one of the best cars BMW has ever made (eg driving pleasure , pure motoring) . If you could buy one for a low price , don't hesitate man.

For the record ; my Fiesta is also a 1.1 Fun series MKIII ('93).
Was my mom's car for 8 year. I'm 24 but the insurrance is still very high. I'm registered as one of the drivers of the car but the insurrance is still on my mom"s name. Next year I would like to have my 3-series and my own insurrance.

Mines a 1989 1.1L :) MK3
How old are you. I bet the insureance must be high on the 2002. The E36 320i sound like lovely cars. My mate brought a 1992 320i 4-door saloon, in black, with 100K on the clock (but in A1 condition) for only £2500. What a bargin for 3-months ago.
Let me know how the 2002 goes, and if you buy the 320i. Matt.:flash:
