Filter Placement?

Ok I didn't know what to title this, but sometimes I see dsms not running the passenger headlight. I figured it's to get more/colder air to the filter but would this help or hurt since the air is going by so fast how would it get more air unless it's like ram air. I know if I'm sitting in the back of the car, and the windows are down ir's hard to breathe but I was just wondering. Sorry for the random question lol

I think it would help. The cooler air comes in through there and hits the filter, almost like it's forcing the air in. It will also make the air around the filter colder, and the rest of the engine bay slightly cooler.

That's true I was thinking it might just go around it, but the engine is sucking air plus it's not like the filter is rock hard so it would just go around it. The cold air thing makes sense too...plus I've seen a decent number of people do it so it probably does help. Thanks!

It was worth 1 or 2 tenths on the 2g consistently. I logged temp drops from 110 with the light in to 80 with the light out (on an 80 degree day). I had it set up so there was only the top bolt and one side bolt holding it in, so it was a matter of 20 seconds to remove or install it. Easily fit into my 20 minute routine at the track. :) Not the best for aerodynamics, but the result was still a net gain in performance.

That's interesting, I was wondering about that. Thanks though!
