Mine doesn't unlock until I pull the key from the ignition.

I do know the door lock system can be programed to do different things. You might try checking you manual and sees what it says. If there's no match, you may need to email the GM customer service center and ask them or a dealer.

Yeah mine unlock when I put it in park. I've been through the owners manual and couldn't find anything about it...

Well i just looked in the manual and it says nothing about it... I just think its really stupid that it doesnt unlock it. My 96 grand am unlocks the doors when you shut it off.

Bones is correct, at least on some model years. At the dealer, I had to reprogram a couple of customer cars to lock/ unlock differently. I think the sequence procedure is only listed in the shop manual.

Mine lock when put in gear and unlock when put in park. If a passenger unlocks the door and gets out when I leave it running in gear, it locks again between 15-20 mph.

Try this procedure listed on this Avalanche link. You'd think the Silverado would take the same sequence.

I have a 2000 silverado and i can change the programming of the door locks. Because of the year of your truck it may not work but it lists the procedure in the manual on page 2-5 and it states:

Your vehicle left the factory programmed to have the automatic lock feature lock all the doors when the vehicle speed is greater than 15mph (24km/h) for more than two seconds, and then unlock all the doors once the key is removed from the ignition. The following instructions detail how to program your door locks.

To enter the program mode you need to:

1. Begining with the ignintion in OFF, pull back on the turn signal/multifunction lever all the way toward you and hold it while you preform the next step.

2. Turn the key to ON and OFF twice. Then, with the key in OFF, release the signal/multifunction lever. Once you do this, you will hear the lock switch lock and unlock.

3. You are now ready to program the automatic door locks. Select one of the four programming options and follow the instructions. You will have ten seconds to begin programming. If you exceed the ten second limit, the locks will automaticaly lock and unlock to let you know you have left programming mode. If this happens, repeat the procedure beginning with step 1.

You can exit the programming mode at any time by turning the ignition ON (the locks will automatically lock and unlock to indicate you are leaving programming mode). If the lock/unlock buttons are not pressed while in the programming mode, the auto lock/unlock mode will not be modified.

The following is a list of the available programming options:

¤ All doors lock/Only the drivers door unlocks:
Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side once.

¤ All doors lock/All doors unlock:
Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel once, and then unlock twice (this is the factory setting).

¤ All doors lock/None of the doors unlock:
Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side three times.

¤ No doors lock/None of the doors unlock:
Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel twice, this turns off the automatic door lock feature.

For more information, see your dealer.

If it's a 99, it wont unlock. Mine does this and I despise it. I took it to a dealer to see if they could reprogram for it. They told me 2 hours and $120 to edit the BCM......needless to say, I was pissed and they still lock.

That sucks. I thought you could reprogram all GM automatic locks. The older ones are apparently different. I've done it on car and truck models as far back as 2001.
