i installed my coilovers a week ago and the back left coilover makes a tapping noise when i hit bumps. when i adjusted the spring height i noticed that the rear springs were lose when i had the car jacked up. i could move the spring as if it were loose. do you think that is why it is making noises when i hit bumps because the spring is loose?

What Coilovers do you have? and also by adjusting the spring height you just changed the spring load rating of them....

Should have gotten double height adjustment.

they are hks hiper drags. i figures by adjusting the height it changed that but i got a good deal on them so i wont complain.

will it do any good to adjust the damper to a softer setting? i have never had coilovers and they are alot more complex than standard spring/strut setups

well, First check your topmounts and every other bolt on the side in question.

you should be able to move the springs since hiper drags cant be preloaded. which may be the problem... most of the better single height adjustables have a tender spring to keep the spring loaded so they wont rattle.

Could be a blown shock?

thats exactly why its making noise and your culprit is that the center nut on top of the shock tower isnt tightened enough. the nature of springs/shocks(especially drop springs) is that the shock will not be extended all the way out at full extension. the more you drop it, the more shock travel you lose. try this and let me know if it works

thanks, i did not even think of that as a possible problem. ill try it tomorrow.
