Fuel Pump Question!

Hello all!

I've been lurking around the forum for a little but am making my first post now :) I have a 99' Grand Prix GT with about 68K miles on it. Here's some background and my question:

I've had a whining noise coming from the back of the car for some time now, and traced it down to the fuel pump. The car has been running okay (noticed a little drop in performance, and some choppiness in accelerating), but I have decided to replace it rather than wait for it to outright fail. Now I wish I would've made this post before I ordered the pump, but this is what I ordered (also got the rewire kit):

My question(s) are:

1) Will this work well with my car? (Sort of asking; will the increased flow rate do any damage to any of the fuel lines since it's not used to this increased flow)

And 2) is this a do it yourself job?

There are issues with using a Walbro not mentioned. I'd recommend staying with the OEM AC Delco/Delphi.

I agree with Bob, many aftermarket fuel pumps are questionable at best. Stick with Delco/Delphi. The aftermarket pumps have a warranty, but that warm fuzzy feeling goes away the 3rd or 4th time you replace it for "free".

And I agree with Rich. He's our parts expert. The Walbro has an issue with improper fuel level indications due to the conversion and when the fuel tank level is low.

There is nothing to be gained on a stock GT or GTP by using a Walbro, just problems.

What do you guys think about the Airtex Fuel Pump? That is what I just installed on my Grand Prix. It looks identical the factory pump I took off. Anyone have one of these?

Sounds like a good alternative to the stock fuel pump considering it's a direct replacement and matches GM's specs.

Just out of curiousity what psi are you gettting at the fuel pressure regulator with vacuum disconnected running the Airtex?

Airtex are definitely better than the Master brand that Zone and Advance carry, but I still hear mechanics grumbling about them from time to time.
