96 Contour Flasher clicks anytime key is on

My wife's 96 V-6 Contour has developed a strange problem, the flasher clicks double speed anytime the key is turned on. The turn signals and hazzard flashers will still work but the clicking is driving my wife crazy, or should I say even more crazy!
When it started doing this two days ago, the right interior directional bulb would also glow, the transmission position switch would also make a buzzing noise (with the engine off) (the buzzing would stop if the shifter was moved into first or second gear, I believe the position switch is just a resistor bank) and the problem would stop any time the headkights were turned on.
I have replaced both front and rear turn signal bulbs with the correct 2357 fronts and 1157 rears. I have cleaned every electrical ground under the hood and the grounds for the turn signal switch under the passenger kick panel. (None were loose or really looked bad but since I was there I wire brushed them)
The flasher still double speed clicks but I have eliminated the trans buzzing and the interior bulb glow, but now it clicks with the headlights on also.
I also went to the local auto parts and bought another electronic flasher for the car. it fits, but when installed none of the flashers work. I am going to try a different flasher today.
Now my wife told me I have lost my mechanical touch and she wants me to take the car to the dealership where I used to work. What an ego buster that statement was.
From what I have read on this forum this looks like a one of a kind problem and not something every Contour does. I would appricate any other ideas and will post the resolution when I get it figured.
Thanks in advance for any ideas on this

Turned out to be the multi function switch. One circut had a floating resistance instead of being open with the turn signal off.
