well before I go into tearing apart the inside of my car...... the selector switch for the vent/heat/defrost/AC has seem to be broken. Right now it is stuck on vent. does anyone know if it is possible to get just that part ( I know it is vaccuum controlled) or if I need to get the entire header panel with the other 2 switches on it (well switch and selector (cold/hot))?? I am hopin that someone can let me know ASAP before I go diggin into this prob tomorrow. TIA!

the GM part number for the mode switch is 16248139 (AC-Delco 15-5627) and is available separately, so you don't have to buy the whole control head unit. If just the knob is broken where it engages the half-moon shaft of the switch, that part number is 16189578 (no delco part #, dealer only). If you can't find a new one in your area, check the salvage yards. The control heads are the same from 92-95, just make sure you get one with or without rear defog, depending on how your car is equipped. It could be just a disconnected vacuum line, but from how you worded your question, I assume the switch is physically broken.

well I called the loacal dealership here this morning and ordered the part and it should be here early next week. Not to say that your wrong.... but I sure hope that is the right part/part number, lol. For now all I can do is wait and pray I guess...

well the part came in today.... looked it over and decided to pull the knob off once more for another good inspection. Found out that the knob had more than on crack in it where it attached to the shaft and the metal insert in the knob was still stuck to the shaft but rotated 180 from where it was supposed to be. Got the metal piece off, grabbed on of the other 2 remaining knobs, put that on the mode selector and all was well. Brought the switch back to the dealership and picked up a knob. The knobs have changed style and I didn't like the new one so I put it in the fan speed switch as it is the easiest to turn. All works great now but I am going to be on the hunt for a good old style knob. Anyone has one that they might want to part with just let me know.

Thanks for the help!
