Why is not a good idea to run a 350 with a 2 spd. pglide for more than just casual non daily use.....what is the down side...thx...ron

I don't really see a downside with using a Slip'N'Slide trans with a 350.
Drag racers traditionally loved using a PG in cars weighing less than about 2900 lbs. When set up right they were faster than a 3 or 4 spd automatic.
For heavier cars, over 2900 lbs a 3 spd auto gives better acceleration and slightly better fuel economy in city driving than a PG.
A 4 spd auto will give better fuel economy than a PG, regardless of weight and use

The downside is the higher first gear which makes it sluggish off the line. The upside is less weight and less HP to turn. To make a PG car really quick you need a high stall torque converter and low rear gears. This is what the drag racers do and it works very well. Run a set up like this on the street and at highway speeds you will have high rpm's and low fuel mileage. Your 64 is light so I would use the PG if I were you unless I was planning a lot of long highway trips. Even then you could still use it, but with a moderate rear gear, which will sacrifice some acceleration.

thx, almost stock.....what ratio are you calling a moderate gear setup in the rear...at this point i do not plan on alot of long distance traveling with this car....just some local car shows and cruise when i want with the wife, etc.....just looking to put together a nice ride with as much kept original on it as i can with exception of the motor swap, address any safety issues such as front end work and maybe a front brake conversion to disk and some decent rims and rubber (mind you that i will keep all that i change out because this car is all original as it sits)...just needs alot of TLC.....Thx ron

It depends on your tire size. (diameter) If your staying with stock I wouldn't use anything lower than a 3.08 or 3.53 tops. If your going to a larger tire then that raises your final ratio so you can use a lower gear (3.73, 4.11) and end up with the same effect.
