s13 with rb25det...... need inspection..... emisions is not even close. lookin for ideas for a quick fix, might be running rich, not worried about power or anything just to get it to pass. Any ideas at all. Or if any one knows someone in th MA/ southern NH area.

Get a friend at an emmissions shop to pass you.
or....
1) Lean it out
2) build a downpipe with the cat an inch away from the turbine outlet
3) Get the motor really hot before going in

sorry, turbo cars spill lot of unburned fuel, i don't know if one cat can do the job (subraus have like 3?!)

sorry to tell ya man...but i dont think ur gunna pass emissions...that motor is not meant for that car.....luckily i registered mine upnorth so it doesnt have to have emissions....ur best bet is to get a friend that is a mechanic to write u a slip sayin u spent like a grand to get it fixed...i think therer is a rule that they have to automatically pass u then...well here there is anyway...

thanks for the help... i guess. im just looking for someone right now to do it for me. i have 2 months till i need to go again. so if i dont find some one im going to lean it out and hope for the best.

dont have exact numbers with me but about.....
hc's was 8.02 suppose to be 2.00
co was 34 suppose to be 30
nox was just a little over due to overheating thats no biggy
let me know what you think

go to an exhaust shop and make a full exhaus out of catalics. Some guy on Nico (I think) passed a sr20 with 2 cats, 4 will most likely do it for you.

i have no doubt that would work but where do i get the money for four cats for a 3 inch exhaust. its kind of a waste, maybe as a last resort but right now im looking for something finctional and less complicated. i got 2 months on the reject sticker and i can still get 2 more.

With the NOx being so low I have a good reason to say that you have retarded timing.
Retime the engine, the HC's will dip some, but could also be as a result of too high of an operating fuel pressure.
Before you test again, run the engine nearly dry. Then put about 1 gallon of 87 octane fuel in the tank with a single cap full or two cap fulls of acetone (it's a ketone that will help to atomize the fuel by reducing surface tension). It has shown to reduce HC's by a good amount.
The key here is to promote complete combustion at a relatively cold temperature without the use of alcohol or any high octane aromatics like toluene or xylene, both of which are found in high octane pump fuel (~30% toluene in your average mix).
The cold temps prevent the creation of NOx, which are formed when elemental oxygen is bonded to nitrogen during the high heat and pressure combustion.
A catalyst will help to further reduce the HC's and scrub off some of the carbon byproducts.

I am very good in chemisty...and i was just kidding...im not questioning ur knowledge...because from what i read, that u write...u are very knowledgeable in all fields of cars..

thanks a lot for all of that im gonna try a bunch of things over the next 2 months and see what kind of results i get. so ill just just hope for the best and let you know what happens in 2 months.

it took a while but i got it. met up with a guy who owns a detail shop in the area and he had a good friend at a garage. it cost $150 but its well worth it to drive a rb25 every day. thanks for all the help any way.
