any body have an issue with changing battery on a 2001.
I herd that the radio would have to be reprogramed by the dealer because of the theft system ?

True unless you have the code to unlock the radio. If you bought the car from a dealer, contact them for the code they should give it to you, or give you instructions on how to get it out of the radio.

Look at the radio. Is the Theftlock LED lit? If the little Yellow light under the word Theftlock on the front of the radio isn't lit, then the code was never set (it's a user programmed feature) and you have nothing to worry about. If the light is on, then you need code before disconnecting the battery, otherwise, your radio will lock and not work.

The manual says that theftlock learns a portion of the VIN. so it won't work in another vechicle.
I get a red flashing light but I bought the car new and never set any codes. I hope that means the radio will work after replacing the battery.

I would probably check with a Dealer service department to be sure, but I've worked on other GM products, and as long as the Yellow LED isn't lit, you should be ok.
