92 Escort LX Major Problems

Just recently the alternator went out in our 92 Escort LX Wagon. We put in a new battery (even though I told them about 10,000 times to get a new alternator) and they didnt listen, and the battery lamp would stay on and when accelrating it would flicker and go out. Let off the gas and it comes back on. So today the battery goes compleatly dead while in the middle of the intersection and it had to be pushed off the road. It was able to be charged and then jumped and it ran for about 10 seconds and then shut off. Now when jumping it will run for maybe 3 seconds. And now it will not shift from Park. It had to be towed back to our house.

So, anybody have any suggestions to what went wrong (with the transmission)?

I already knew it needed a alternator.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the transmission, If your escort is like my 95, you have to apply the brake pedal to shift out of park, when you apply the brake it activates a switch to unlock the shifter, the switch on mine has to have voltage going to it or it will not shift out of park. Since your battery is dead, that will probably be the problem.
