Throttle stuck

Just encountered a new problem with my 2.5l 4cyl Grand am. My throttle gets stuck, causing the engine to rev very high, or however hard i pressed the gas pedal. I know it's the cable thats getting stuck... cuz once i pulled on the cable the car idled back down to normal. My question is there something i can spray on the cable? There is an adjustment screw on top, but I prefer not to touch that if i don't have to.

Try spraying WD-40 all over/down into the cable. Pull the cable forward and backward to try to work the lube down into the cable. This might help. If it isn't the cable sticking, it may be sticking at the throttle body. If the problem persists, it might not hurt to pull apart the entire throttle body / clean & lube the whole thing. I'm guessing one of these things should solve your problem.

Disconnect the cable at both ends, see if it moves freely. If not, replace it as its getting ready to break and getting stuck with no throttle kinda bites.

I'll check the cable when i get a chance, I think it's the plastic housing that the cable runs around ( not sure what the name of it is) is getting gummed up. What do i expect for not really driving the car for about 3 years now...

Is Wd-40 the best to use, or can i use lithum grease?

If you know anyone who mountain bikes steal some teflon lube from them. The stuff works awesome on cables, its what I use on both the car and the mountain bike. As for lithium grease, it works when its warm out but as soon as it gets cold out it will stick.
