hahaha i'd give anything to be able to get a sound clip of it......its sad! i used to have this cheap $20 3" in/out muffler that i had on my 92 RS and it sounded really good on the v6, i was amazed at how it sounded....but damn this is horrible!

LOL!! Damn, that sucks. How much did you pat for it?

i started out ordering a 3" in/dual out Hooker (i think...) muffler and they ended up sending the wrong type of single in dual out...i needed an in and out on one side and an out on the other side and they sent one with an in on one side and both outs on the same side that i paid around $125 for i think and i took that back and told them that they had ordered they wrong muffler and exchanged it for the Dynomax and paid the difference....ended up being around $185 for the muffler $20 for the 3" exhaust elbows and $39 for the 2 3" tips and $25 for labor. all together around $270
Link85x
10-07-2005, 03:26 PM
Christ!! All that for a muffler?!?!? For $100 or cheaper you could have gotten an entire catback.
666_speed
10-07-2005, 03:45 PM
haha yeah i know....and the catback wouldnt have sounded as bad as this muffler does.
KaotiKCamaro5

that really sucks... i went with a magnaflow cat-back on my 3.4, best sounding exhaust on a v6.. IMO..

i wanna say i only paid around 300 or so.. but you gotta know that any exhaust you put on your car is gonna sound ricey at some point.. but Magnaflow is defiantely the way to go..
666_speed
10-07-2005, 04:06 PM
thanks...300 wouldnt be bad....i know they all sound bad at a point...but the Dynomax is at such a low point i hate it....the last one i had that was $20 it didnt sound bad until about 4k rpms.

Well you've gotta give it a break in period. My Borla sounded somehwhat high pitched at first. But now, it's gotten this really nice deep low tone and I love it. Just give it some time and see if it doesnt start to sound any better.

man thats not cool, hey u could always ebay it off and get something new...i dont think if it sounds as bad as he says it does it will sound any better a year from now. maybe if it was just a bit off but the man said its really bad.
666_speed
10-08-2005, 10:53 AM
it sounds really good at really low rpms but over 14-1500 it sounds horrible...but thanks i'll try it out for a couple of weeks before i decide to get rid of it.

Hey drvingstorm 05 what exhaust do you have?
It sounds crazy but I remember watching that clip of your pops revving your motor and you were behind it. I didn't think it sounded so good either. Your exhaust just didn't complement the motor well.

Well you have 3.8 V6 and superchargers are cheap and ease to get for that engine, so supercharge it and see if that makes it sound better.:)

Well I can make a sound clip but as FormulaLT1 can tell you my exhaust soudns pretty good for a v6... it is...
stock manifolds/y-pipe for now
Carsound/magnaflow universal 3" in/out high flow cat (ebay $35)
Magnaflow 3" catback made for the LT1, part no. 15620 (local place $320)
Pretty deep, got a nice tone IMO, not too too loud (unless you get on it).... me likey.

Don't you have like no lowend torque with that setup?

I thought the 3.8 came with 200 hp stock? Because the 3.4 comes with 160 hp.

exactly, 200 crank rated horsepower - 20% estimated drivetrain loss = 160 RWHP approximately

Yea maybe the camera was just too close on that vid. I couldn't load up the driveby, my realplayer won't play it for me so I was only able to watch the walk around.

Why not just go with a glass-pack? There dirt cheap they flow and they sound good. You do have to fabricate some new mounts, but that’s pretty ease to do. And if you don’t like it your only out $30.
I put one of these (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006484/showCustom-0/p-2006484/N-111+10201+600001787/c-10101) on the back of a 4-cylinder Grand Am (not for the sound but because it was $45 cheaper then a new stock muffler) turns out sounds pretty good.

because the magnaflow is manufactored better so it doesn't have the gross harshness of a glasspack, and also its the mandrel bent catback

Yeah, Kasey's exhaust is one of the better sounding one's I have heard on 3.8's. Has a stronger tone than your average run of the mill 6'er.
Link85x
10-12-2005, 03:21 PM
Not a 3.8, but i heard flowmasters on a 3.4 firebird, and it was indeed harsh. I didn't sound so good, real crappy. Flows do sounds really good on mustangs, a buddy of mine had a one (crashed it, go figure) and it sounded f***** badass, way better then my car has ever sounded. I drove buy and LT1 Trans Am with a magnaflow catback on an on ramp once and and it sounded really f***** awesome also (i knew it ws magnaflow because i got close enough to actually see the tips, and magnaflow was written across the tips. Btw, we weren't going that fast). Was enough to make my decision final.
