1998 Jeep

Today my fuel light came on so i stopped and got some gas. Just the regular 87 octane which i have always put in and never had a problem with before. As soon i got out of the station and merged in to traffic and a clicking noise started. It didn't seem to have an effect on the overall performance but the higher the rpms the louder and faster the clicking began. I thought maybe it was a piston but there has never been any oil leakage and no smoke burning. I could still be wrong on that part. I read around to some other posts and they said it could be bad fuel? Bought some STP fuel cleaner and just put that in on my lunch break but if any one knows or has an idea of what it might be a reply would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ryan

Bad fuel can cause engine to hinder preformance, and which is done by cloging fuel injestors. More or less; sedament(sp) which is stured up when a fuel truck puts gas into the tanks. I dont think it would be bad gas. a clicking sound?...hhhmmm...it could be low octaine, try 91 oct. if it persists, then it could be something else. a PING is what a knocking noise is. like i said, i would try 91 and see what happens. Hopefully this helps a little, sorry i could not nerrow it down even more.
