well i dont even know where to start but here it goes, bought this 89 jeep cherokee off this guy he stated that it was the fuel pump so we go and buy and fuel pump and it started right up, well next day my husband had drove it to the gas station not even a block away and it started making really loud noises so i posted a ad and someone told me to check erg valve ok so we ordered one of those put it in and we tryed to start it up and nothing acted like it did when we first started so my husband thought maybe the fuel pump for some reason had went out so once again for the 3 time we had went and bought one he put it in and still nothing, well if we sit there and crank on it every once in a while it will turn over but only for a few sec.makes a really bad bogging down sound and sounds like to me by the egr valve it makes a wailing sound. We had bought this dang thing for 400 and we have already put close to 600 in it this are some of the parts that we have replaced, the idle air control valve, fuel pump, egr valve, gaskets, so if anyone could please help i would deeply appreciate it i am a cancer patient with 3 kids and i need to get to and from my doctor and i am not being able to, so any ideas any comments any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you kindly jody

Well, sorry to hear your troubles. Could be faulty You might try the CTO (coolant temperature Overide) switch, it controls vacumm to the EGR. If it's wonky, the egr will open at the wrong time.
Could also be the Throttle position sensor, and or the oxygen sensor in the exhaust will make these engines run rich which could be working in conjunction with your faulty Throttle position sensor giving you double jeopardy.
Here is a link to a manual for 88 jeep like yours(click 88 FSM (factory service manual) zip file. Try looking under egr system.
