Amp Sub Wiring

i was just wondering how to get the most out of my amp.. i have a rockford 600 4 channel amp and one MTX 8000 12" 4 ohm sub.. and right now i have the amp set to 4 channel mode and running the sub off the rear outputs i think in bridged i'm not sure.. but the amp says it can handle 300x2..at 4 ohms.. .. am i gettin 300 watts or should i set the amp to 2 channel?? ..hmm.. very confused :confused: ¿?

well I'm not too sure about your specific amp, but the best thing to do would be to bridge it the most that you can for the highest wattage.

ummmm, no you arent... and frankly, im a little confused -- you are running the sub off the rear channel? Ummm... you only have one sub hooked upto the amp -- nothing else?

I am betting the fronts are wired to the internal speakers and the rears to the sub? If you want to see if it is bridged, the rear channel should have two outputs (rear left and right) and these two outputs should have a connection from positive of one to neg of the other. Otherwise you are running the sub out of only one channel, hence using 1/4 of the total power of the amp, or about 150 watts.

i am running the sub off the rear channels just as devedander said and have no other speaks connected at the moment. So i guess i have it connected right for now¿ Also i am thinking about the 6.5's in the front, should i get 2 ways since my civic already has tweeters (which will be swapped with pioneers) or should i get 3 ways.... also should i really get the back speakers or just leave the set up with 2 fronts (amped), tweets, and the sub?:confused:

you would get components:D i'm assuming you have stock components so why not just replace the comp with some aftermarket comps. going from components to coaxial or triaxial is useless IMO. is the MTX sub a Dual voice coil or a single voice coil?

If you have a 4 channel amp and are only using two outputs to power your subs you are missing half the power of the sub. You should either wire the fronts to your interior speakers, or set bride the fronts and bridge the rears and (is this possible?) bridge them to each other. I would really consider bridging the rears for the subs and running interiors off the front, less sub power but better for your front speakers. Also aftermarket components may not fit just right in your stock mounts, I had to dremel out large parts of mine to fit in my fanatic comps.

Unhook your amp immediately... you are going to mess it up most likely... I havent looked at the specs of the amp, cause im not a fan of RF - but ill put $0.02 on it that says the amp is NOT single channel bridgeable...

a 4 channel amp is only typically bridgeable to 2 channels...

2 channel to 1 channel...

So if you have a 4 channel amp, with only ONE pair of wires coming out of it, unless the manual said you can do this -- you will most likely end up harming the amp... I would advice against it till you know what you are doin.

ok my MTX is only a single coil.. should have gone with DVC but got a deal.. anyway i have it running off the rears in bridged mode.. like the manual says, so i guess that is all the power im gonna get out of it.. sounds good for now.. just need to change the interior speaks. since i already have some tweets, can i just get a 2 way 6.5 or just go with a complete new set of components? no 6x9's right? just get good comps?

Like the manual says? Ummm... doesnt the manual also say that do run it on the REAR channel bridged you need to have a pair of speakers connected to the FRONT set? :confused:

in order for the rears to be bridged i need to connect the fronts too?? hmmm.. the manual does show that.. but i didn't think that mattered.. i guess that is why there is a "newbie" under my name..hehe..thanks for the info sparq :cool:

Hookup a pair of speakers and you should notice a differance. And that my friend is why I dont like RF amps -- if you tried that with any other amp it would throw itself into protect mode because it would see you are running it improperly -- the RF amp doesnt care, but you will care when you blow your woofer, which can and most likely will happen... so just be carefull :alien:

ok. one more question..a blown sub just sounds horrible right? because my sub is now giving a little vibration..this maybe cuz there is air coming from the front of the box.. i think i vibrated some screws loose.. i have to recheck that.. and i will def. hook up some more speaks now! :D
