problem with battery alt or battery

Hi i have a ea ford wagon and the alt light comes on when at low revs. I have taken it to a macanic and had the battery tested and he said it was the alternator so he fixed it. But it is still doing the same problem and if i drive at night the lights flatten the battery. If i park and idle a while the alt light will come on and the battery will go flat. i took it back to him and he said it will get better but has not. I think he is a rip off. Has any one got any ideas as to what i should do as i am thinking of haveing a go at replacing what ever it turns out to be myself. Any help would be great. :confused: p.s. the light will go out when at medium to high revs and will keep the battery charged but while idling for 5 minutes or more "FLAT"

sounds to me like excessive resistance somewhere in the circuit.i would check all connections at the battery and alternator to make sure they are clean and tight.

Did the voltage regulator get replaced? If not, replace it.

what year, what size enige? that might help. i have a 64 with 170ci.
i replaced the batt and a new alt on mine then took out the regulator on the front behiind the grill a siver box check it i don`t nned mine becase my alt has a bluit in one.

it is a 1980 modle ea ford could it be possible tthat it idls to low as the littlest amount of revs above idle stops the alt light from comeing on and keeps the battery charged
