I'm replacing the alternator in my 98 Taurus ... I need to loosen the tension pulley ... I've located it and have attemptd to loosen the bolt from the above the engine ... I've attempted to loosen the bolt putting pressure in a counter-clockwise direction .... It's either needs more pressure or I need to go clockwise .... Any direction/help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I also have a 98 Taurus and here is what I have figured out as far as I can tell. Your uppermost pully is your alternator. The on just below that is stationary. The one just next to that to the right is the tentioner pully. I think if you put a wrench on the bolt and pull toward the front of the car that will do it. You may have to put a lot of umph behind it.
