Little or no power gain stock, also a Federal offense!

It will sound different. You will gain power. Some states it isn't illegal.

I think there is still some sort of AIR system that pumps air to the cats on the 4th gens isnt there? If there is, you cant just let that blow in the air. Plus the check engine light may come on if the O2 sensor after the cat, once again if there is one past the cat, isnt reading as it should post cat.

The AIR system is on the mainfolds. Not the cats.

You would have to adjust the computer or get rear O2 sims.

MR LUOS, fyi cats are federally mandated, not under state control, the state is mandated to over see the regs.

if you have a cat-back exhaust system it will sound better with the cat off (a little more raspy/deep).. but i have no idea what its gonna sound like if you have the stock exhaust.. and honestly, you wont see or feel a difference in power.. i removed my cat about 2 years ago, shortly after i got my exhaust..

I live in Florida.. and I have no cat. Greatest thing about it, it's not illegeal. Yes car companies are required to put cats on their new cars. BUT, once someone buys that car, it's up to them to decide if they want to remove it, given of course that it's legal in their state to do so.

As for HP gain, well.. you won't see any difference at all, as most others have already said. I actually wish I had one. The way my exhaust goes, it's 2 1/2 from the Y-pipe, and then theres an adaptor that makes it go to 3 inches. It doesn't look all that great, kind of a sloppy welding job around it. But if I had a cat that had a 2 1/2 inch inlet and then 3 inch outlet, it would look alot better. So I would have to say it would be wiser to just go ahead and get a cat, unless of course you blow all your money on an expensive exhaust kit and cant afford one (like yours truly).

Will be louder exhaust sound. May notice gas mileage increase and power increase if there is some clogging in the catalytic converter. Check local laws, it may cause inspection problems.

the reason why i asked this is because my firebird has about 110k miles on it and it still has the stock cat on it i think. i dont think the original owner ever replaced the stock one. so im thinking maybe mine is starting to get clogged or something.

Change it. Cats are only designed for 100,000 miles. Get a high flow cat to replace it with. You may be suprised by the difference in response and during heavy acceleration.

what are some high-flow cats you'd recommend?
