sr20 vs rb25 (potential)

I've almost decided what motor i'm going to go with and i'm leaning more towards a rb25... but there are limited sites that carry rb parts compared to the sr20, is there as much potential with the rb versus the sr20 since there is a lack of aftermarket support.... sr20 parts are everywhere you go! i just get depressed because rb parts are far and few between... someone please boost my confidence
Thanks

your comparing the difference between an I6 and a 4cyl. Both are strong engines but it really isnt a fair comparision. The RB will be more work and harder for parts. The Sr has a lower power potential IMO but parts are easy to get and the install isnt very hard. What are you trying to get out of it, street, track, what?

I am just about to start my rb swap and i have yet to find a performance part i couldnt find. What parts are u lookin for? when all else fails, try ebay. You can find anything on there. Ive picked up a full catback, koyo radiator, clutch, apexi boost controller, HKS manifold, Garrett t3/t4 ball bearing turbo, 550cc injectors. IMO the RB has plenty of aftermarket support, u just have to look for it. If you need anything concerning the swap, contact Mckinney Motor Sports. THey have EVERYTHING u need for the swap

Ill lay out for u waht i all got and for how much i bought it....you could do it for 5k but it wouldnt exactly be the most amazing runnin car...you need other things for it....
Motor, tranny, ecu, harness ~ 3000
Mounts ~ 600
1 piece driveshaft ~ 500
3" downpipe ~ 200
ACT stage 3 clutch ~ 364
Walbro fuel pump ~ 100
Koyo Radiator ~ 270
Apex'i N1 catback ~ 350
Apexi AVC-R boost controller ~ 400
FMIC ~ 200
piping/cupplings ~ 75
I mean you could do the swap technically without the clutch, fuel pump, radiator, catback, boost controller, intercooler, and intercooler piping....but then i would be worried about blowin up the motor i just spent all that money on...so best bet is to get everything you need before u swap it....or u could have problems....

I mean, u could do the sr20 swap...thats fine and everything...but if u are lookin at a budget of 5k...u could do the rb swap for that....just dont get an electronic boost controller, get an intercooler from a second gen supra (i got mine from a junkyard for 40 bucks), with the mckinney mounts, u dont have to get the 3 in downpipe made. and if u can get someone who can do ur wiring, ur savin money there instead of sendin it to mckinney and costin urself 350 more bucks....Do waht u want....i just like the rb swap better cuz its more unique and original.....

well i know 3 people are running around here with the sr20, and 2 w/ turboed ka's.... the guys with the ka24 swear up and down that it's the better way to go, along with less expensive, they say that since it's already starting out with a 2.4 it naturally has more torque, and of course the guys with the sr20 guys say that they can't live up to the sr20 in the long run, i don't know what kind of #s the sr20's are putting out but the 2 guys with ka24 are pushing 450 & 485hp

Ok, well there ya go...some of ur friends have sr20's and ur other friends have KAT....so why not go with the rb just for some change...yeah, the KA-t does have the potential of more torque over the sr20 because it is a 2.4...but the rb25 is a I6, 2.5 liter....so taht can put down the same torque numbers as the KA-t.....and u said u dont know the specs on a sr20....well the s13 and s14 models put down about 220hp...and the s15 black top puts down 250hp...the blacktop is more expensive...but if ur gunna do teh sr20 swap id go with that....

Thats the only reason Id go with an RB over an SR.
in all reality it will cost you 7 grand to get an RB into a 240SX. and you could get the same HP from an S15 SR20 for 5000 and not have a front heavy vehicle.

Shifting that huge hunk of metal 1" makes the car almost prefectly balanced, really? Do you have a link for this? I am very curious, since the weight of the SR should be further back, and lighter with the all alloy block.

The RB weighs about 700lbs, yes?
shifting it back one inch isnt gonna restore the weight distrubution to what it would be with a 500lb SR. Especially since even with the Mckinney mounts the RB is about 4in away from the radiator.

yea it all depends on your money count man. Obvious the rb is going to be more, but then you have something everyone else doesnt. The sr will be cheaper, then you can spend the extra cash you would have spent on the rb for sr power mods or suspension or whatever else you may need.
to be honest, around here iv seen more rb swaps than sr20's. But i know there are more sr20's than rb's around here. lol the first turbo'd 240 i ever saw had an rb20 in it, thats a rare sighting especially to have it as your first turbo'd 240 sighting. THere is one guy around here with an rb25 too. But its mostly dominated by sr people, and there is 1 ka-t running (that i know of) and there's a couple people still sourcing out parts for there setups. So where im at, its pretty balanced "culture" i guess, but the sr is still winning.

put a 13bT in it ...i think those only weight about 210lbs or so bare block...and it would be cool
That would be cool....but i would chose a lighter body to do taht...like an Ae86...and id put a 20b 3 rotor twin turbo motor in it....

yo in the states a v8 conversion would be the same as doing a SR, CA, RB, VG, VK conversion.. your still swapping in another motor to get more power, so why not get the motor with more power.

Who would want to swap an RB into a 240SX??? The VG makes more power and the weight is further back.

you're a joke. get a job.
this is how it is. if you want the power of an i-6T or TT then do the rb. imo the rb sounds better than the sr. the sr is cheaper but more cliché. if money isn't an issue, then go with the rb since its not as popular as the sr and its from the legendary skyline engine family. you can get just as much power from the rb than you can with the sr, its just a little more expensive with the rb.
as for the V8, it doesn't belong in a 240. it belongs in a truck or impala or chevelle. what DOES belong in a 240? the ca, sr, ka, rb and maybe vg. the 240 isn't a muscle car, its a japanese sports car.
