I just located a D16Y8 with only 8,000 miles for $900! This sounds like a pretty damn good deal to me... Or is 900 too much?!
Oh, and it's here in town, so I don't have to pay for shipping...
Also, if I do this swap, I'll have to wire up for ODB-II... Anyone have a write-up on that?

sounds good for the amount of miles.... you dont have to wire it for OBD2, wire it for OBD1...run a p28 ecu...and use the y8 dizzy..its compatible w/ OBD1..

I'm totally stoked! Just put $100 down on the engine so they will hold it while I sell some stock for the rest of it. Talked them down to $800 for it. It's a D16Y8 from a '98 Civic EX. It's been sitting on their shelf for 3 YEARS! That's why it's only got 8000 MILES ON IT! Damn thing is barely broken in! It's super clean (just a little dusty), and gets good compression.
So what is it I'll need? I have a 90 Si hatch, so I'm pretty sure I can use my existing tranny, headers, intake, etc.
I guess I've gotta get a P28 ECU (where do I get one?) and a Y8 distributor (the salvage yard quoted me $100 for one).
What should I replace/upgrade on the engine before I drop it in?
(thinking about ordering a set of Energy Suspension bushings, etc. Also going to do a port & polish...)
I've never done an engine swap before, and I don't know anyone who's a mechanic, so, ANYTHING y'all can tell me will be beneficial.

usually when you do swaps its wise to change things like the timing belt. but the engine only has 8,000 miles on it. would you still have to change that?

Sinse the moda has been sitting for 3 years I would change the timing belt. I also would get the poly inserts for the front and the rear mount. you can find the P28 on ebay I got mine for $91. you also need the OBD-1 conversion harness here is a guy that sells them $150 [email protected]
It comes with instructions on how to wire it up.
This swap is cake took me about 6 hours
make sure you get the harness plugs for the dist.
You could use your intake manifold or the Y8 manifold
I would use Y8 manifold and sand the opening out to fit a B serise trottle body.(I'm working on that now)

On an engine that has been sitting for 3 years I would suggest changing every gasket you can get to easily. It is tons easier to do it while it is out, instead of finding out that it leaks once its in the car. Also before fireing it up, crank it over a few times with no ignition and a little wd40 in each cylinder, then let it fun for a minute or two, just long enough to get it warm then change the oil and filter.
