Im looking in to gettin a 2000 s-type with 71,000 miles on it. I can get it for 12,000. Are there any common problems with this model, or anything specific I should look for? Also, are they expensive to maintain, replace tires, etc. thanks guys.

Some stuff to look for. Make sure the gearbox is okay. Test all the modes, and drive it hard in each gear to make sure it doesn't pop out (rare but documented gearbox failures). Check the integity of the radiator header tank. there are documented leakages that can fry certain electrics (again ... rare!).

Aside from that, they are really, really good cars. Servicing costs in the UK are £50 per hour, which will mean nothing even when converted on an exchange rate basis. Essentially, labour costs for Jaguar are about 30% higher then for Honda, if that gives you an idea. Parts are probably Ford prices apart from bespoke trim and bodywork (me guessing there).

I say buy one. They are really cool, a bit rare - so they have some cache, and they are a Jaguar - a real aspirational car brand! I have driven Volvos. Merc, BMWs, and MGs and the Jag has it for me. It's a bloody good car and it's built way better than it's Ford stablemates (including Astons).

Nige.
