Ive got a smoking problem

last nite i was driving home from my gfs house and i noticed this really weird plastic burning smell comming out of my vents. Thinking it was too serious to keep driving i pulled over and turned my interior lights on and noticed smoke comming out of my ac/heater vents and the ac/heater control area above the radio. sumone told me today that is could be my heater core or a short from my sound system. Can sumone please give me sum tips on how to solve this problem be4 it gets worse? thanks

you said it smelt like plastic huh? well, the only thing that is coming in my mind, that if your heater core is leaking, then really hot water would be allowed to get out, in fact it will evaporate as soon as it gets free fromt the cooling system... that water is damn hot if the engine has been running for a while... may be melting some of the plastic... cuz the heater core is held by a plastic housing inside the dash...

dam, i hope its not the heater core, that means my whole dash is comming apart.

well i can't say for sure that it is... but no other ideas are coming into my mind... i've had to replace the heater core on my car... it was a bitch and a half...
