Not all Monte Carlos have console shifters. Some are column, just as some Luminas are console shifts. The MCs had a different grille, tail light lens, and back plate; as well as two door only configurations (just as Luminas are all sedans).

The MC had the 3.4 DOHC (Z34 config), the 3100 (LS), and the 3800 (LTZ) engines. The Lumina had the 3100 (base & LS), the 3800 (LTZ), and I -think- might've had a 3.4, but I don't believe I've ever seen one factory. Same goes for console-column shifts; usually the LTZ/LS gets the console, the base gets the column. The MCs are sportier inside to add to the coupe factor, wheras a Lumina vies for the more luxurious look.

Exhausts come in two types: single, and sport. Sport is a Y with two mufflers and two outlet pipes per muffler. Lumina LS and LTZ have these usually as defaults, wheras I'm pretty sure MCs had them as defaults anyhow. Rare to see a Lumina base with sport exhaust.

Spoilers are not just on MCs. You'll see Luminas with 'spoilers' as well. Two types are used for both cars, I call one a tumor and the other a handle. When you see the two types you'll know what I'm talking about.

Weight is different as well. MCs are smidgeonly lighter.

Is it any faster? Well that depends on who's driving ;P

I have an odd duck of a Lumina. It's a 1995 Lumina LS with a 3.4 DOHC, Console shift, factory 16 inch aluminum wheels, twin exhaust, two tone paint - Adriatic Blue, Silver Grey on the lower half of the car. It also the front bucket sests (not a 60/40) with headrests. Evidently the guy who has this car before me got it with those options, according to the original sticker (which came with the car. So far, I have not come across any Luminas that has the 3.4 DOHC. All I know is that it packs a punch!

watch that motor. They can be troublesome and very hard to work on, and parts can be hard to come by also. Sounds like a very nice car. Wanna race? he he he

I dunno. I'd rather have a 'granny car' that could haul some tail than a tricked out car that could do the same. Something about the sleeper factor really appeals to me.

i duno though, when u peel out and stuff (when i do lol) the people around u are probly like wtf

Do you guys think lluminas are pretty quick? ive only driving an explorer, 200sx, plymouth voyager, and an eclipse, and my luminas the fastest one out of all of them (or the explorer is not sure) but ya its quicker than my sisters 200sx and her bfs eclipse

but ya, id like a cooler car, cuz i dunno people just think ure a loser (thats what my sister thinks) when i drive fast in my lumina

but its always fun, to pull up next to some ricer dude, whos reving his engine or somethin and then u just sit there, and the light turns green, boom peel out lol

Lumina's are pretty quick I agree there, but I just bought one and besides a home made cold air kit what else can I do? I did the cold air kit and it helped a bit but I'm still looking for a little more. I have the 3.1L.

.

And my 2 posts are near the middle of the page, that tells what parts I used and there is another link to a picture of basically how I made mine. Performance is a little better and it makes the engine sound great. Now you can actually hear it.

I think I paid around $30 at a local Auto Zone. Nothing big like a whole cold air kit. And the nice thing was everything you need is in that one box.

do they have multiple k&n filters? or is there just one thats universal for all cars?

so is the filter still used as a filter? or its used as the intake now?

my friend got his cold air intake for like 20-30 bucks on ebay

but ya so i just take out some stuff (in the filter) and connect it to where?

and could it cause bad stuff to happen?

i dont have to drill or do anything of the sort to the car right?

u have a lumina right?

does it sound alot louder? like how it would if you put on a new muffler?

u think u can record the sound of ure engine? (from outside or inside the drivers seat)

just checked the part number, u put in the other thread, this came up

I don't know how auto zone came up with that but this is the link with that part number e-1009 and the filter I bought. Which year and engine do you have? It might be different. But there is no drilling, cutting or fabricating anything. Just remove the old air filter and cover and bottom half and clamp the air filter onto the maf and I just let mine hang there. You should probably clamp it or secure it somehow but I'm not too worried about that. If you want to see what it sounds like just take the cover for your air filter off and take the filter out, drive down the street and back. Maybe stomp on it once to see what it sounds like. The only time you really notice a difference is at WOT. But make sure you put your filter and cover right back on or you could suck something up and burn up your motor.

where is my filter lol? and what is WOT?

i have a 3100 its a 97

edit: ok well i found it, took the filter out and started the car and revved a lil (didnt drive around though) but ya i didnt notice too much of a difference :(

so if i were to get a new filter, i just throw it in the box basically?

yo so do intakes take the place of filters?

cadgear

WOT = Wide Open Throttle.

You won't notice a difference until you put some load on the engine. AKA driving up and down the street once just to get a sound check. It soulds all right, a little meatier, but nothing that'll turn heads. If you get a new panel filter -specifically for the Lumina- then yes, you put it in the box. If you got a generic/round cone filter, you pull out the box and put the filter there.

An entire intake setup would replace just your filter, yes. Otherwise you're replacing the filter and nothing else.

well if i got the cone filter from k&n (or the one u linked) do i totally take out the box and mount the filter?

and with the intake that you made, u no longer have a filter? or is the intake THE filter
