Im thinking of buying a new throttle body for the 305, but not sure which is good/ or what size?
What other mods would you buy if you had a 305?

Get the holley 670cfm throttle body, edelbrock tubular headers, 3" y pipe, hi flow cat, 3" cat back, since you got the 305 get the dual snorkel intake. and you could always go vortec

That holly throttle body fits a 5.0 truck, its the same for a camaro 305 TBI?

Yes it's a direct replacement. everything hooks back up no modifications necessary.

i have been doing research and have found that this is a good throttle body, and if you get a intake manifold you can get one for a carbed 305 and ge this adapter. the tbi is part number 502-5 And the adapter is 17-45. those are at www.holley.com also tbi spacers and tbi injector spacers are said to work well. and get some bigger injectors.

get the holley 502-6, it comes with the bigger injectors, and there actually is a minor modification needed to use it on our cars, and it's either the tps or iac harness from a truck has to be put in place of ours. LT1 cam is a popular mod as well. As for the dual snorkel air cleaner, good luck finding one, very rare, you'd be better off with an open elemant. as for intake manifold, the 300-66 is a TBI manifold with 2" bores to match the TBI unit bores.

The Lt1 Cam wont fit without mods will it?

Is a throttle body spacer worth it, and will there be enough hood clearance with the stock hood?

my suggestion, put an lt1 in there

ya i put a tbi spacer on my engine...I did notice the difference some ppl say they dont but i did. Hood clearence is close...i had an open element and it fit, but i took that metal spacer thing that is on the tbi unit off.Do you know what im talking about.

as much as I dog on 305s for being slow stock, they can be woken up real nice and made quick.

Is the procedure for getting an LT1 in a thirdgen about the same as getting an ls1 engine in one? I'm mostly concerned about the mounting of the block and the mounts being different and then the exhaust. I dont have the resources to bent my own pipes to custom fit.

Xeno, how ya been!?!?!

Xenostalgia

lt1 vs ls1 installtion... I'd think so, I dunno really I was being a wise ass. LS7 = 15,000 for the block alone.... so  unless you have that 15,000 just taking up space stick with a lt1/ls1 from a junkyard

Im reading all over the place that the Holley 670cfm TBI unit wont fit the stock intake manifold, and some sensors dont hook up right?????????????
What the crap, will it fit without mods or not?

thats because it will bolt up you just have to get the two injector ports enlarged to be 2" holes. Also you will have to get a prom tune to get it to run right and maybe at all. If you go on jegs they have tbi intake manifolds with 2" ports that will flow much better. But to take advantage of that extra air you must put in a bigger cam. The one in there sucks to no end. Some cheapo heads would also beat the stock ones. But World Torque or class or something like that makes an upgrade head package designed specifically for the 305 and really arent all that expensive and those with some 1.6 rockers will wake up the motor considerably by themselves. And with those all of the port sizes will match up. Where with heads off of a 350 youll have a port mismatch and it wont flow very well. Now thats all more than you probably wanted to do but to get the motor to respond to these upgrades you gotta open up all of the blockage. And the factory 305 has plenty of it. I was real close to doing all of this with my 89. But them I realized that the price/effect ratio just made it not worth it to me as unique as the project would be. All of those mods might get you close(maybe with large enough cam) to 300 hp more or less. But hey 300hp plus 150 shot of the bottle and youll be moving real good. Oh and i almost forgot. Youll have to get a new fuel pump to get enough gas to the motor or you will lean out and lose potential power. The 305 can make tons of power it just takes more effort and money.

Finally answers....thanks.
So would I need any modifications if I bought the Holly 670cfm and a Edelbrock performer intake and installed it at the same time?
Mostely talking about the Throttle body sensors and stuff.

bag91
10-07-2005, 10:12 PM
Or any problems with other things?

92zcamaroperson
10-07-2005, 11:18 PM
I cant think of any issues with sensors. If you did both at the same time it should go smoothly. Its impossible to say that youwont have any problems but you should be fine. Im telling you though. If your gonna take the intake manifold off you might as well change the cam since youll have all that apart. Then you might as well change your timing set if you have a lot of miles on the motor and some of the seals down there. The cam and timing set arent expensive and arent difficult to change. You can find a stock lt1 cam if you dont want to mess with the heads which i can understand if you dont since its a bigger deal. Poke around on ebay or here or if you have any local car clubs thats a very good source for parts. Theres always a strong change of something going wrong. So count on it. But it shouldnt be too bad if you take your time. www.tbichips.com (http://www.tbichips.com) is a source where you can get a programmed prom. He is also a very good source to ask questions about modding a TBI system.
