heater core, which hose is in, which is out.

I have a metro which was converted to electric. There are two hoses which pass through the firewall to the heater core. I want to hook them to a water heater so I don't freeze this winter. Does anyone know which one is hot water in, and which is the cold return? Thanks.

I believe the top goes to the intake manifold so it's the in. The lower to the lower radiator hose tube.

I doubt it matters for you though.

they sell a electric heater core that fits in place of the water one. might be easier thatn trying to convert it to water

Well, from the engine compartment, looking at the firewall, there is a left and a right. One of them goes to the top of the heater core and the other goes to the bottom of the heater core, but I can't tell which is which. If noone knows, then tomorrow, I will wedge myself under the dash with a flashlight and try to figure out which is which.

Actually, the car already has an electric heater element somewhere in the air ducting. As you might imagine, it shortens the car's range considerably. But, it IS what kept me from freezing last year.
