I'm using mobil 1 extended performance full synthetic is my aurora. Has anyone else used this? They say it's supposed to protect to 15,000 miles but I'm not entirly sure about whether or not I should wait that long. Anyone have experience with this? Also, I heard that once you switch to synthetic, you have to stick with it. Is this true?

you can switch back to conventional oil if you like at any time with no ill effects other than less protection.
I used regular mobil 1 in my olds 98 touring sedan and sold the car with 222,000 miles never burning oil. I have used regular mobile 1 in my Aurora since 43,000 miles and now with 197,000 i feel well protected. i always reset the DIC and just change it when it tells me to; usually around 7500 miles.
the extra protection is for peace of mind not to save money. i.e. if you lose your job and cant afford to change your oil then you know you are protected.
FYI my Aurora has ALWAYS used a little oil - usually 2 quarts between changes. i think half is used by the engine and the other half by misc leaks.

i think your correct in getting 15,000 miles with synthetic but the problem is the filter being left on for all those miles...not a good idea in my opinion...i would rather have a new filter every 3,000 miles...

Cool. Thats good to know. The one thing that I have noticed however is that the DIC doesn't seem to recognize the fact that i've good mobil one in it and the oil life indicator seems to change at the same rate as before. Maybe the car still needs to adjust to the new oil?

I bought one of those 7500 mile filters. The problem is that around here, the cartridge for the damn thing are near impossible to find. I usually have to go to two or three stores before I can find one. I suppose the smart thing to do would be to buy four or five of them at once though.
