Hydraulic clutch cylinder

I would like to hear from any cavy owners re 2003 and up with a clutch cylinder problem. Mine blew out at 54,000 miles and a new one was installed ( not covered by warranty ). This new one caused all kinds of problems. Like peddle lock up, can't release clutch etc. After a trip to a dealer ( not covered by warranty ) it was worse. At 60,000 miles it blew again and took the master cylinder, clutch and pressure plate with it. Now they are having trouble finding parts in Canada. Is it possible that the system has faults from day one. I am proceeding with legal action since GM customer service told me ( not covered by warranty ) Don't we hate those words. Albert Southon

Yep there is a problem mine went out due to the slave cyl. seal let go and oil all over the plate, replacement clutch comes with slave cyl. because they know they are bad, earlier mod. had better design but like all else they need to mess things up that work. Did not have a problem finding replacement in Canada..

They found parts at GM because the garages can't keep them in stock. The dealer replaced the cylinder, but I pay for the clutch and master cyl. and some labour? Since this is the second replacement in two months, my lawyer advised me to sue for all repairs incured. If GM admits faulty parts, why should I pay to fix their problems? Right now I am fighting with my dealer. They don't like people who can think!

I had the same problems you do. I can bleed my clutch one moment and have full clutch. Then as I drive it the clutch starts to lock up. I replaced master cylinder, resevior, line and cup. I'm with you lets find out if it happenedfrom day one.

53000 miles... think I have the same problem. Last night the clutch pedal started acting weird. Then today the clutch pedal went out completely. Pedal goes to the floor, and I cannot shift from a stop position. I was able to "limp" home by rolling the car then shifting into 1st and continuing to whatever gear... just could not stop or I would have to roll to about 5 MPH to shift into 1st.

I am not 100% sure the cylinder is gone... but from what I am reading here.. it is a strong possibility. If someone has a better idea to fix my problem... PLEASE let me know.

If they were replacing clutch and MASTER cylinder, they are WRONG. They would/should replace the slave cylinder with it. The slave cylinder is an expensive piece and a lot of times does not come with the clutch kit for the j-bodies.

Also, the clutch is a wear and tear item like brakes. Make sure your lawyer knows that so he can figure out a way to work around it. There's probably something that he can do as far as a reasonable life expectancy. Which is probably well longer than 6,000 miles.
