One day my car wouldn't start and just made a real fast clicking noise. All of my lights and things were fine. A friend said it was the solenoid. So we replaced the whole starter and solenoid, and it still wouldn't work. Next we checked the battery which was low and probably needed replacing, so we bought a new battery. This did not do anything either. We have checked the battery connections, but those are fine. Does anyone have any clue what else it could be?

it's elctrical alright. now the clicking that would be the relays under the hood for fuel pump etc... that's usually a sign of a really low battery. if the battery is new and the new battery is good and the terminals are good then you may have a bad connection elsewhere. your main chassis ground where the -ve cable meets the body work could be at fault or the main engoine ground which is located by the started. clean them up with some rough sandpaper and try again. if it persists i'd take the new battery for testing. when you checked the terminals did you clean them up at all? it could look like a good connection but a piece of sandpaper costs very little and can fix many a thing!

Thanks! It was electrical. When they put my starter in they hooked the wires up wrong.

Did you take it to a mechanic shop or family/friend do it? I guess mechanics can make mistakes, but shouldn't.

cool that it's fixed. hopefully it didn't screw up the solenoid on the starter as the emf prduced by the coil would be acting in the opposite direction, forcing the magnet inside to push outwards against the casing. over a drawn out period it could burn the coil out. hopefully all is well!
