Finally finished! Tamiya's 1/12 Rossi's YZR-M1

Hi guys!

I finished Tamiya's 1/12 Yamaha YZR-M1 ridden by Valentino Rossi during the 2004 season of MotoGP. This was my fourth completed bike kit, but my first using acrylic enamel spray decanting, wetcoating and polishing techniques recommended by Alex Kustov and the other finishing experts.

It was also a first for me to use a more complex photoetch detailing set beyond the basic detailing such as brake discs or shift gates for cars. I decided to give a try with the Studio 27 set, so I would know whether or not to recommend it to my customers. The PE was pretty straightforward and just got a little bit more daunting with the clutch cover, exhaust clamp and swing arm spools.

I also applied Scale Motorsport 1/12 scale carbon fiber decals on the air intake, fuel tank protector, rear set/exhaust cover, and rear fender. Tamiya released a front forks, camera, antenna and airvalve set, so those were implemented too. The front forks really pimps up the model! I'm also usually hesitant to use tobacco logos, but on this kit, the Tabu Gauloises stands out a lot better than GO!!!!!!!.

Later on this year, i'm going to attempt building another Rossi bike, with even more detailing, especially with all of the various piping, chain, gears, connectors, and exhaust springs.

Overall, i'm very happy at the moment, with the fit and finish of this kit, and can't wait for our distributor to ship us Loris Capirossi's Ducati Desmo GP bike.

Rossi's bike, and all of the aftermarket stuff was provided through MGP.

Nice job Vince, great add to the Rossi collection. 1/20 or even 1/24 SMS CF's would look much better, just heads up for next one.
Level of details is amazing and the paint job is .... well on Alex's level.

Thanks for the comments! I hope that I can continue to improve. There's so many areas that I can think of. Good thing there are always more kits to build...

I wonder if I should grab the old, slow selling Cup Noodle Honda NSR250 bike that's sitting on our shop shelves.

looks very good. Nice to the the "interior". As Sasa wrote it may look better to use CF decals for a smaller scale - at your next project ;-))

Looks awesome - my friend builds the bikes and I know they are tricky!
Especially adding the colour decals round the edges of the wheels - always tend to split!

I would have to agree with the CF being a bit too big. I was able to choose between the Modelers CF and SMS CF in our inventory: the modelers having no specific scale but looking just right, or the SMS specifying 1/12. I figured to go to scale, but in hind sight, maybe I should've went with the Modelers.

I'm going to try the Modelers CF in the next bike project.

I never thought it would happen. I originally planned to have a vendor booth at the Oct.8.05 IPMS Vancouver show, but my fiancee's coworker's wedding toasted off that idea. However, I was fortunate enough to drop by before and between the ceremony/dinner to try showing off the Xanavi GTR and my Rossi YZRM1 bike for the contest.

I was late getting back to the show, but the guys at the BC Model Cars Club was holding onto the kits along with some unexpected awards.

The Xanavi took 1st place in its category (Racing Competition Closed Wheel) and Best Auto Competition.

The Rossi YZRM1 as well, came in 2nd place for the Motorcycles All Scales category. I'm pretty happy for that podium finish.

However, I noticed so many modeling mistakes (which you might not be able to see in the photos), so i'm motivated to improve further.
